  • the quick way to delete all triangular polys at once is to use the Structure manager – in the Attribute Manager choose Mode/Project Info and the Structure Manager is the third tab. If you have a poly object and you are in poly mode it will have buttons to select/deselect tri’s, quad’s etc…

for things to bend they have to have enough subdivision to do it smoothly, probably the caps of your extrudes are just the default settings meaning one poly – one poly can’t be bent, only ‘twisted’ so you need enough polys for the bend to be smooth. In this case the caps of the extrudes need to be ‘Regular’ and the stripes need to have enough subdivisions along their length to bend.

This is not the way I wold build this probably but it shows what’s possible

you can use Booles to cut the stripe – assuming you want you want the cuts of the stripe to be shaped like the grip use a copy of the grip but increase it’s size by a bit (probably)

The bend has Falloff settings so you can get the bend to affect just the part you want.

It would be possible with xpresso using the clone index or possibly plain effectors with clone selections but with only 6 lights it might be easier to just have 6 lights… Is there a reason you want them to be clones

You can put a material on the cloned light with a Mograph Multishader in the Transparency channel – set the Multishader to Index Ratio and use as many colours in there as you have lights

try turning off Total Internal Reflection in your transparency, you might be seeing the reflection of the world black

there are number of paths for going from C4D to U3D but only Okino Polytrans that I know of that will read U3D and export something useable.

  • this is way late but FWIW, minimize the rice grain to the smallest number of polys – use textures to make it appear smooth and with whatever detail you need. Second, cheat. Do not attempt to fill a large tank with something the size of a grain of rice just make it look like you did (unless you have to actually show that – but it’s not likely you really have to). It doesn’t have to be a full tank of rice (or whatever) to stick a hose into to suck it up only enough actual particles to show the pick up, what’s under that can be a filler solid object that is never seen or has a texture on it to look correct if it is seen…
