Have you tried the Interpret Footage command and specified the alpha?

Set the comp viewer to a lower resolution, 1/2 or 1/4 so it doesn’t have to render every pixel.

To see whether its interlaced move through the footage frame by frame in the layer or footage window, if you see any tearing you’ll need to change the interpretation of the footage. (File > Interpret Footage > Main)

You sample looks like the original footage may be a compressed format or long GOP format. If the original footage is HDV, MPEG or something other than uncompressed video you need to convert it first before working with it in After Effects.
Since there aren’t really frames in the original After Effects cannot interpret the footage accurately.

That is a great idea!
There is something similar. Press Command + Shift + o to open opacity and set the value in the dialog box. Control + Shift+o on Windows.
Same for some other properties (R, P)

No. Can’t be done with Illustrator 3D, 3D in Illustrator is a “Live Effect”, not a 3D Model.
You need another solution, like Zaxwerks Invigorator or a real 3D Application.

Chris Zwar has a terrific free project file that does halftone dots.

This camera shoots either DVCAM or HDV/DV format. I’m going to assume you’re working with HDV.
If you haven’t transcoded to another format for keying, I suggest you do so. HDV is it is a compressed long GOP format, After Effects won’t work well with it.
I’d transcode to a workable format then work on correcting the colour first, then the key. Depending on how poor the footage is you may need to do some rotoscoping.
You can work in stages, getting a rough key and using that as a track matte on a duplicate layer of the footage, then pull another key on the duplicate.

Do you want to make the background transparent?
If so you may need to use some of the keying controls.
If the background is black you could try using the UnMult plugin.
Its free from Red Giant.
