Looks like you have particular roles set to be minimized. The settings are under roles in the timeline index.

My problem isn’t so much the cost, but the feeling of being trapped. Not being able to open old projects just because you didn’t pay the bill. I have a simple suggestion to Adobe that would alleviate this problem with many. Change only ONE thing. If you haven’t paid your bill, the save and export functions are disabled if you make any change. That’s it. You can open old projects, even adjust them. But if you want to keep it or export it, you’ve got to pay.

That was my experience before Adobe went rental. I’ve been using AE since 1996 and my distaste for the subscription model is so that it sent me looking for other solutions to AI (easy) PS (not as easy) and AE (most difficult). Motion is a great app and in many ways superior, and in many other ways inferior. It’s a wash. But in a wash with an important app like that the tie goes to the market leader AE just because they have an enormous user base and support base. That said, the Motion user base, which was previously next to nil, has increased probably 100 fold since CC.

Everybody wants $10, $20, $50 a month from me. Apple Music, cable, phone, etc. and it’s annoying. I was a Master Collection owner of CS5 so my qualm isn’t so much about the cost. I rented CS6 for half price. Yep early subscription adopter. But THAT was when there was also a purchase option. The $25/mo was cheaper for sure. I figured I might go back to discs in the future. Then with CC they eliminated that option and I felt FORCED to rent for another year at $50 a month. At that point I upped my motion skills and bought PS and AI replacements. I quickly learned and realized if I didn’t I’d be forced into the next CC to open my previous CC projects and so on. I don’t like that feeling. So, I now try to use Adobe sparingly. Paying for it only when a project requires it.

BUT I don’t know how long that can last. Adobe is so entrenched and so much the Microsoft Word of photo/video that it’s getting harder and harder to avoid. That’s even more true for larger companies and facilities. And that frustrates me even more. And so on…

Most of the things you mention, glow, position, size should all be in the text tab or adjustable by grabbing the text and moving it in the viewer.

The custom text and custom 3D text tools are your friend if you learn how to use them. Very powerful right inside of FCP X.

That said, MotionVFX.com is my go to for plugs and temps. mBehavior has been a lot of fun. It’s a set of animation moves that can be applied to anything. But also comes with some text behaviors.

After that, VideoHive.net would be my next stop usually. Then maybe over to FXFactory. A few folks there have text packages that are pretty decent.

What if you pasted the stills into a clip via the open in timeline command? Might treat it as a clip then.

  • I have up/down mapped to the clip height (chicklet view through waveform only view) and it doesn’t have any issues.

  • I’ve got the same ultrastudio hooked up to 2012 iMac and it’ll play avchd 4K off Pegasus R4 raid with some dropped frames. But I just turn off warnings. 1080p is generally warning free, but I leave it off because every once in awhile it’s a nuisance. When things visually look like they’re dropping, I usually have it left of the wrong frame rate or am accidentally editing 4K instead of 1080. In resolve I have to drop that same 4K footage to 1/4 to play back decently. 2012 does a good job at 1080p, but the app seems to just suck up all the GPU to do it. Sometimes it’ll report I don’t have enough GPU for the app to run and I’m running the 680mx 2gig. X never has these GPU issues and just seems to work. That’s been my experience.

Do you have latest driver for ultra studio?

If you’re gonna spend $50 to get codecs, get Motion.

Are you using the custom 3D title generator? You can animate just about every aspect imaginable without key framing.

  • Resolve 12’s playback capabilities are definitely inferior to X, so something is awry. Is your sequence 4K by accident? I did that recently, but I was amazed at how everything still played back in RT for the most part on my 2012 iMac.
