  • You likely don’t have it set to match the frame rate and or size of the sequence. For example it’s outputting 24p and your timeline is 29.97i. Or vice versa.

Another waste of a read. Let me paraphrase… Larry updated his OS. He’ll get back to us on what he finds later. Thanks Larry.

Well that was some light reading. There wasn’t one single bug listed in that article. There was a link within the article to a support forum, but not exactly a comprehensive FCP X related list.

Others have had more serious issues. But the TC one is on every mac at the Apple Store.

If you’re going to try it obviously a clean install on a separate drive/partition is the way to go.

I’m guessing the TC thing is just a system font issue. I’ve seen a few iPhone apps go wonky too because likely they were designed to fit a specific space with a specific font size and utilize the system font, so Apple changes it ever so slightly and oops!

But honestly, if you don’t know which field is hours and which is frames, etc….

The FCP X guys were probably working on El Capitan!

I clean installed El Capitan and have been giving it a whirl on a separate drive. An old G raid eSATA drive hooked up to my iMac via a USB 3 to eSATA cable. Takes a bit longer to load than the fusion drive in the iMac, but after that I can’t tell the difference.

It definitely has been a stabler, faster system than Yosemite. The only bug I’ve found so far is the timecode window bug and really, who cares about that one. All the other stuff I’ve heard of I’ve seen none of. But I haven’t given my big plugins a whirl yet. mFlare, mObject, that sort of stuff. But slicex seems ok. Universe seems to work fine. Color Finale works (but I haven’t done much with it).

Performance wise everything seems quicker and more responsive, BUT, my Yosemite install was getting pretty funky and I was just waiting on El Capitan to do a clean install instead of redoing Yosemite. Maybe I had some bad fonts or something. But I’ve been installing stuff on a need only basis and the system runs much better.

The Pegasus R4 (TB 1) seems to run faster with write speeds off the charts and read speeds around 370.

It doesn’t sound like your issue, but in the arrangement pane, you can drag the menu bar from one display to the other. Normally, the menu bar only shows on one display, the main one. If you have “displays have separate spaces” checked in mission control settings, then each display has it’s own space and can display a full screen app. When this is not checked, any full screen app covers both displays, usually meaning the external display is black, with the exception of apps like X or Motion where you can tell certain aspects of the app to show on the external display. Doing this in separate space mode as you’re doing, has been problematic and continues to be so in El Capitan. I like working in this mode and figured they fixed it, but nope. For example, I’ll have my events on the secondary display, and when I switch apps via alt+tab, then switch back, sometimes the events jump to my main display, but in a hidden separate window. A function that’s not even possible or choosable. It’s certainly not functional. And the only fix is to put events back on the main display, then put them back on the secondary. And then, remind myself not to use the separate space mode because apparently after 4 years of full screen apps (started with Lion) apple hasn’t figured it out.

So not sure if that’s exactly what you’re doing but it sounds related in some way that might only apply to laptops. I’m on iMac.

Ah, so at 1/100th of a frame that’s the equivalent of editing at a 3000khz level. So it’s not 4800 kHz but I think it’s close enough, and X doesn’t require some mode. Plus it seems that you can actually go beyond the 1/100th anyway. I think this ones busted.

I’m always amazed by what Larry doesn’t know. I’ve edited one project in Premiere CC and I was aware of this. I found that accessing the sub frame mode was a complete PIA though and I’ll take X’s method any day. There has never been any audio I couldn’t massage at 1/100th and Oliver you may be right. It just reports to the 100th, but seems you can adjust to anything. I think legacy could slip audio to the 1/1000th on version 1.0.

If they really are switched, then you should be able to go into display prefs > arrangement and drag the menu bar to the other display. If they’re switched, it’s showing on the external.
