I think it’s being made tougher than it is. You can shoot the whole thing completely live and flawless if you accept one fact, you’re going to cut to a close-up at some point. Which would be nicer anyway.

Just shoot the two completely live on a two shot. Let the one person stand up and do the whole thing as if the other person were frozen. Then sit back down and start interacting again.

The trick would just be to make sure the two people have a little separation between them so you can freeze HALF of the image. Someone mentioned a fish tank or a ceiling fan. If you had something like that that you could crop in as well and keep going it would be very realistic. It would look like the only thing that stopped is the other person.

Let the effect linger for a sentence or two, and right about when people are trying to figure it out, cut to a closeup or medium shot of your speaking talent. When you cut back to the two shot for him to sit down (or interact) again, you use a different freeze of the background, the one right before they start speaking again. Just make sure the “frozen” talent is looking somewhat in the right direction.

Any other way and you’ve got huge logistical problems with timing, etc. and then somehow matching back in. Think of I dream of Genie or Bewitched.

So by using a split screen, freeze frame, CU shot, and back it should be flawless, and real easy to shoot. We can’t all be Speilberg.

And I ALWAYS kept that scrolling feature turned off myself in Avid. I like to be in control of what I see and where my timeline is. It was so annoying when it moved it on me.

The zooming thing and panning thing (use the hand tool) doesn’t work when playing if you click play in the canvas window. But most people don’t do that anyway. Press the space bar with the timeline window active and you’ll be able to zoom (cmd+-) or pan (h) during playback.

  • You might want to move away from ever using the font tag again and start looking at style sheets, CSS, etc.

For example, you can link every page to a stylesheet that defines the P tag (your normal body text) to a particular size and font. You can define the size in pixels, ems, percentage, points, whatever. I find pixels to make the most sense. With styles you can set other attributes like margins, line height, tracking, backgrounds, and borders and more.

And once you create a set of styles you like, if you’re like me, you use it as a starting point for every site you design.

Does the decklink card have video hooked up to the analog video input? Even if you’re just grabbing audio, most cards (DV included) require sync to operate.

  • What you’re looking for is Sebsky Tools https://www.dharmafilm.com/sebskytools – It will convert Avid ALEs to FCP importable .txt file batch lists.

Automatic Duck will import and export sequences from one app to the other if you need that.

Well, first, and most confusing, is that 720×480 and 640×480 is the exact same size picture. One has rectangular shaped pixels, and the other has square shaped pixels. All video uses rectangular shaped pixels. But all computers use square pixels. So both images are a 4:3 ratio. However, on a computer, the rectangular pixels are shown as square pixels, making the image distorted. So when you are mixing 720×480 and 640×480 (square and non-square) one needs to be squished or distorted into the other’s shape. Normally, work with video in 720×480. Then import your 640×480 and make sure it is distorted to fill the frame. Then export the sequence at 640×480.

It’s a pretty quick and easy job really. A few seconds. Set up your sequence to patch the audio to the correct track. Make a new empty audio track if you have to. If all your old audio is on the same track it’s really easy. Make that track the only available autosync track.

Once you’ve set those couple things, put the playhead at the start of the first clip. Press F. Press F10 to overwrite. Then press the down arrow until you’re at the head of the next clip. Press F. Press F10 to overwrite. And so on.

If all the audio if on the same track, you can get into a little rhythm and do the whole thing in a matter of seconds.

Highlight something. Make an empty link. Go to the actions pallette and make a new action – “open window.”

Just a thought, but couldn’t ya look up audio scrubbing in the index instead?

I have read some reports where that is not always true. If you put a link like “here’s a great forum site” and link to the cow that’s one thing. But If I were to make a button on my site that said “forums” and inserted your site into a frame on my site, then the cow might be a little ticked off in that it appears I’m claiming the content as my own, and by putting it in a frame I’m also altering the works. Your advertisers may not apprecieate their ad appearing in a frame or an iframe on a porn site for example.

As far as the PDFs go I’d say the same holds true. if you link to “a great document explaining this on the cow site” that would be ok, but if he were to link directly to a pdf on your site like “download the pdf on this info” as if it were his own, that would be a problem.

Mills, something isn’t just copywritten when they put their logo or the copyright mark on it. It’s copywritten the instant you create something in tangible form. This post is now copywritten. But I probably agreed to something or other when I joined this forum I would suppose.
