Ah, well see Walter they’ve introduced these new iMacs with the intel processor…. 🙂

If you meant Intel iMacs then I might check ’em out. I’m still on the ‘ol dual G4.

Back in 1999 I saw the original iMacs at Costco. Nothing but iPods and shuffle’s since then.

While there isn’t really a standard imho, -12 is at the very top end of what people consider zero analog. It ranges from -12 to -20. I usually use -16 or -18. Sony tends to think it’s -20. -18 would be alright. Just don’t let your peaks get to high or they may get distorted at the dub house. -12 is certainly the safest, but your dubs might come out awfully quiet.

I option click on the lock or option click on the track, etc. etc. Usually takes an extra non-option click to also select the one you clicked on. I’m a right clicker for lots of stuff, so taking your hands off the mouse to do the function keys slows me down. Either that or I’m too lazy to learn all those funciton lock / unlock, etc. Your pick.

Extract just sounds too creepy. Almost as odd as the icon for Avid’s “lift.” A little dude with a barbell. ??? And extract has scissors. Next time I go to the dentist for an extraction and he pulls out scissors, well, I’m gonna call it a cut.

SuperWhite doesn’t affect rendering. Just things created in FCP. If you’re in super white mode and you create a white slug, it’ll be 110 white to match the possible super whites of your camera footage. Ditto goes with white of your text, white flashes, etc.

It’s stupid and shouldn’t even be an option. Especially it it’s cutting it off on export.

Why would you be exporting to the Animation codec? I can’t think of a reason but there must be one.

I just looked at the menu and it lists these functions under sequence. ????

The actually call it lift and ripple delete these days. But they show the icon for the delete key over the numbers for lift. Actually, it’s pointed the other way, I guess meaning the delete key over under the f11/f12, but that key doesn’t say anything except “delete.” Very freakin confusing if you’re trying to learn.

They might put them under the edit menu as well, since that’s what you’re doing. Editing!

    Couldn’t you either…

    1. just run the component out of the DV deck into the component in of the DigiBeta and dub your DV to digibeta – saving one step

    or…

    2. run the component through the digibetadeck (as above) and load directly into FCP – saving 2 steps

Assuming your Digi has component in?

Or that. FCP calls it ripple delete. The delete key under F11/F12 is the lift key and holding shift makes it the ripple delete key.

Cmd+x is a “cut” much in the sense of copy and paste. You’ve now put that selection on the clipboard. In FCP the comand you’re looking for would be delete (lift) or shift+delete (cut).

You can use Media Manger to consolidate a project, but if you generally don’t have huge handles on your files (ie you logged shot by shot and not a whole tape) you can have FCP simply find (cmd+f) unused files for your sequence. It’ll find all the unused clips from your project and you can then highlight them all in the resulting bin, and right click and choose “make offline.” Then choose to move them to the trash or delete them from the disk. Be aware that this doesn’t take into account nested sequences. Clips in nested seqs will show as unused.

I wouldn’t worry about rendered files since you can rerender.

I go even further and only backup materials that are non-tc based. Meaning they were created by after effects or possibly were audio clips ripped off a CD. I back those up along with the project file and any photoshop files, stills, ae projects and related ae media.
