Bottom line, it just ain’t after effects. The keyframing engine hasn’t changed one single bit in 6 years. You can’t even cut and paste a keyframe, so don’t think you’re going to get the easing and smooting of AE. It’s pretty good for basic linear stuff, but that’s it.

The background has to get filled with something on export, and white is what it gets filled with.
If you want a different color, fill a layer with that color and put that layer on the bottom in PS.
Or are you hoping to use an alpha channel? You have to create the alpha channel in the channels pallette if you want transparency…
OR
Just import the photoshop file directly into FCP. It’ll come in as a sequence. Open the sequence and copy and paste the elements you want to use. For example if you just want 1 layer from a 10 layer ps file, import the file and copy and paste that layer from the resulting sequence. You could alternatively turn off or delete any layers you don’t want and use the sequence as a still. Or IN PS merge all the layers and then import the PS file.
Importing a PS file will give you a cleaner alpha than cutting your own alpha.

I’m using an Acomdata external Sata that while it doesn’t have anything important on it, it’s been running without sleeping or spinning down for months no problem. No fan. Stays fairly cool to the touch.

Luckily supply and seats are not an issue. The client can get more buses if they overflow, and they don’t actually pick any seats like an airline.
There’s really no budget for config work, and using paypal would work, but it doesn’t offer the confirmation number stuff. Plus, the client doesn’t have any sort of merchant gateway at the moment. They don’t even take credit cards over the phone that I know of.
The client wants to be able to check online to see how many seats have sold and to also print out a list of passengers. I’m just trying to do my due dilligence and see if it’s possible in a small budget. There are a couple companies out there doing this as an example…
apexbus.com and gotobus.com both sell tickets for independent bus lines. As far as I can tell both use their own custom systems or have teamed up with someone big to process the payments.
If I were to use the PayPal system to purchase the tickets as a simple ecart product, would it be possible to also add some sort of confirmation number that gets emailed to them as well as put into an online database the client can look at? Probably not since the paypal thing is a closed system.

You’ll still want to boot off two different versions of the OS. Like he said, Avid is picky about OS Version. For example the latest version of Avid might only support 10.3.9 and QT 6 while the latest version of Final Cut may REQUIRE 10.4.x and REQUIRE QT 7.x. That’s why so many places have Avid standalone systems. Generally you can’t just download any software updates or OS updates or QT updates until Avid approves them, OR updates it’s software to work with the new versions. And that can be many many months after the updates are out. Usually Apple has gone on to a new update by then.

One thing you guys may be forgetting is frame rate. If you drop the frame rate to 15, you can essentially cut the file size in half with the change being nearly imperceptible. Ok, we can see the slightly added jitter on large movements, but generally 15fps is the accepted web frame rate.
500 is a great rate too, because it’ll start playing back instantly on DSL systems. H264 looks great, but if someone doesn’t have QT7 they’ll get an error and no info on why. QT doesn’t parse the version number and codecs, etc. It just checks for a QT plugin. I’ve gone back to sorensen 3 usually for compatibility.
Some recent examples here… https://www.joanproduces.com/portfolio/new – they use sorensen 3 with mp3 as the audio, stereo 22khz 16bit I think. 15fps and 30sec equals about 1.7 mb.
We originally used h264 and they looked immaculate at 3/4 the data rate and file size. But most of the clients weren’t able to see them. We didn’t want to clutter up the screen with a “qt 7 required” logo or something so we’ll wait until the world catches up.

Well, assuming one has a blanket license, etc…. highlight track, burn cd, drag file from CD onto hard drive. Drag file to bin. I assume that’s not the secret, because it’s hardly a very convenient workaround and people have discussed it here numerous times. Apple themselves advertise you can burn the songs you guy to CDs all you want.
