Well, a lot of people think Avid’s EDITING interface is at best, inelegant and annoying. Unlike any other editing app and reqiring 40 keystrokes when one mouse click would do. But, that’s just their opinion. Which is more important, the editing interface, or the online issues?
Hey, Media 100 was a breeze for uprezzing. Easier than Avid. But I’m not going back there!

Avid runs on intel since 1998. Albeit under Windows. Avid already runs on Windows, does FCP? 🙂
It’s been so many years since I’ve done Avid now. I don’t know if it runs on OSX intel yet or not. I would assume not since there really was no reason to have a version that ran intel (OSX) until Monday.

Well the MacBook Pros we’re jumping from G4 processors to Intels. Not G5s to Intels. The max performance gain on the Book jump was 4x, while the max gain on the G5s to intel is 2x. Seems pretty decent to me.

Last time Apple fiddled with the specs I beleive it was just on paper. Same product. Just using different ways to judge the contrast – like the other companies do. In other words, they changed the specs, but if you order a new display, it’s the same one that was sitting there in the warehouse last week.

There is no such thing as SD DV resoltion. Those are 2 different things. But we get the idea.
I think he meant the quality of the jpeg, no? The jpegs should always be all full quality. But then, you shouldn’t use jpegs either. If you have the choice, use an uncompressed image format. Why use a jpeg? Use a tiff, a pict, etc.

Final Cut doesn’t truly support mpeg. Just quicktime (.mov not .mpeg) files. Simply export from QT Pro or compressor as a quicktime that matches your sequence setttings.

Or try dragging the nested clip UP to a NEW track, then stepping in and editing. You won’t affect your other tracks this way when it automatically gets longer.
I’ve also had luck opening the nested timeline, then going back and locking the main timeline track(s). Then editing the nested timeline. But I think that new versions of FCP lock you out of that now.

And why didn’t you just plug a tv into your digi beta deck if you wanted to see how it looked on a regular TV?
You should be loading and editing with BM presets and either 8bit or 10bit codecs. 720×486. Then, if you want to burn a DVD just export to compressor and choose an appropriate preset. But you should really have DVD SP or iDVD handy to create the DVD. Not sure how Toast handles fields, etc.

Yeah, it’s in the airport software somewhere. Never done it though.

The difference between matte prints and glossy prints is not analagous to monitors. Monitors are in a sense fixed in place and a glossy screen is quite a pain to look at unless you get yourself and the monitors just perfectly aligned. Even in a dark room the reflection of the output of the screen shows in itself.
A photo can be held and manuevered to lose the reflection almost subconsciously. Notice how the museums use matte because like a monitor, it’s fixed in place.
Step into a compusa or walmart and look at all the laptops running. On or off and you’ll immediately find that the matte screen is easier to look at without moving your body around (you can’t move the laptop there) to not get a reflection.
IMHO the glossys are just a ridiculous fad. LCDs shouldn’t be used to color work anyway.
