[andy patterson] “I agree. I would teach them both if given the chance. In the end teachers need to do what is best for the students as apposed to pushing their biases.”
I think there is a lack of understanding of education in many of these posts. It’s easy to say, “You should teach all three so students are prepared.”
But the problem with that is, you are sacrificing a lot of your limited time getting into idiosyncratic details of how different editing systems work instead of teaching the craft of editing. If FCP X allows you to get to the craft quicker, then that’s what it should be. There is a lot of thought that has to go into curriculum development. If one of the students really excels with FCP X and decides to make a career of editing, I have no doubt they will easily be able to switch to another editing program as the need arises. They will be richer for having spent more time thinking about the craft of editing.

It’s really and apples and oranges comparison.
A small percentage of App Store sales are Apple products. Apple has to pay the software developers on the App Store. It’s not exactly fair to require them to take a pay hit because of declining currency value. They may even be contractally obligated to do so. Adobe can choose to raise or not raise prices on it’s own software, irregardless of currency changes.

Try unchecking the “Deinterlace” button. And use the “Field Dominance Overide” above it and try different options to see if one of them works better.

[Oliver Peters] “I wonder if they cut it, too. Is so, Premiere?”
Does it matter? I understand for a TV series or film with lots of media management or a TV spot with unique editing challenges, the choice of editing tool is an interesting topic of discussion. But for a TV spot like this? Who cares. Don’t they all do the job adequately.

[Robin S. Kurz] “And it still does. Unless of course you changed the name, the location, length or the likes, which would cause the exact same problems in 7 just as well. If those criteria are met, there’s absolutely no reason why it shouldn’t work.”
I do this ALL THE TIME! Works fine. If you want to keep working in FCP X while rendering in AE, just add a “2” or something to the render file. Then when it’s done, quit FCP X, rename it to the original filename. Reopen FCP X. Done and done.
That being said it would be nice if there was a “Replace Media File” function, so you could force a file replacement. It could refuse to do it if the length is different.

[Aindreas Gallagher] “Also their keyframing apparatus is still a garbage fire. You need to put on hazmat gloves. I did check that bit.”
You’re desperately clinging onto that last thread. What will you do if Apple fixes that? 🙂

Also bear in mind that if you can actually change the 1080 export settings in FCP X to a lower resolution. And it’s sticky, so the next time you export it, it will be the lower resolution. Check your output settings before submitting.
Also, I’ve seen that snow issue with some systems. It was an OS display issue that was not actually in the MP4 file. Check the file on another computer to see if it truly is in the MP4 file or not.

[Claude Lyneis] “It may not be too long before the innovation on the iPhones slows, maybe Apple is already there.”
The smartphone market has pretty much matured. There isn’t a lot of innovation to be had there anymore. That’s why Apple tried to sell removing the headphone jack as “innovation”, when they could have been doing more useful (if less flashy) development like making Siri able to work in all apps. How many lives lost in car accidents would that have saved?
They lost the edge to Amazon and Google with home assistants. Not sure if they can catch up on that missed opportunity. I think they put all their chips on the Apple Watch, which is not that useful for most people. Driverless cars are a pipe dream for Apple, others are going to beat them at that game.
It could be Apple needs to enter a new phase which is more refinement of their tech including Macs, software and iPhones.

True. But there is something impractical about the way it’s done. Which is you can only “hear” the effect of the compressor when you’re outside of the compound clip. If you have to go in to the compound clip to make an adjustment you don’t really know how the compressor is going to affect the sound of your adjustments until you go back outside the compound clip.
A better method would have been to allow effects on roles without having to create a compound clip.
