I don’t get why you would want burned-in subtitles. I’m also not sure what 100% transparent, burned-in means. It’s a bit of an oxymoron. If it’s 100% transparent it’s not burned-in. Maybe you mean no background box. Of course if it’s burned-in you can just use Apple’s built-in title tool.
There are many services that make subtitle files, like rev.com. But it sounds like it’s translation for a limited part of the video. In that case you might want to use something like “Subtitle Edit Pro” in the App Store and make your own.

I’ll definitely take a look and am interested. But I haven’t seen a product demo or anything to evaluate how it would work for me. I’m hoping the transcriptions are open to be searchable within the Finder. That’s a critical component for me.

The trick is, what if you don’t know how it will be used, or know that it will be used in different places. How do you shoot for both? Another reason to start acquiring in 4K. For interviews I’m considering shooting in 4K wider then I typically would. Then I can zoom in for 16:9 and crop for vertical.

There is definitely a use for both. I use Trint at .25 per minute for quick and dirty interview transcription or fast-turnaround 3+ minute subtitle creation. If it’s 2-3 minutes, I find it faster to just key it in, rather than correcting errors. And if I have the time, paying Rev.com is a much better deal for subtitles.
I think Speedscriber would really have to convince me that the interface with FCP X is worth double the fee I’m already paying for somewhat accurate transcription.

As someone who uses the older MBP daily as a secondary workstation, I can say without hesitation that you need a hub for that also. They just can’t build enough ports into a reasonably-sized laptops. Nowhere near what you need in a production environment.
So I’m not sure what exactly has changed. Connecting to your hub with USB-C versus Thunderbolt isn’t exactly a radical shift. Just plug-in a couple cables and start working. I don’t get all the hand wringing about this.

Even pros have a few blindspots with keyboard shortcuts. And I would not say anyone that doesn’t edit full-time isn’t a “pro.” I’m a pro-editor, pro-videographer, pro-director, pro-producer, pro-effects artist. I just get tired of the notion of trying to split people into the “pro” versus “non-pro” crowd (usually by people who tend to do a single task in production).
But I would tend to agree with you that keyboard shortcuts aren’t exactly revolutionary for the touch-bar. I think everyone knows that sliders are the way it should go. Audio adjustment, color correction tools, etc. Imagine if Apple put a version of Photos level adjustment. Which is incredibly powerful BTW and is sad it didn’t make it to FCP X.

I can say with the purchased version, I’ve never had that happen. The other possible explanation is there isn’t enough real-time processing horsepower. FCP X only processes audio in realtime and never renders it. It’s one of the reasons I tend to use the iZotope app because it’s rather processor intensive. But usually it results in audio coming in and out frequently or stuttering playback. It doesn’t sound like that’s what’s going on.

I did that. It’s a fairly complicated project. With all the parameters, rigging, and behaviors it’s questionable how much time it actually saved me. On the plus side I made some improvements with version 2.0. It wasted the better part of the day though.
