[Nathan Kendall] “I want to perform L and J cuts in Final cut X. It is not as easy as it should be since the timeline does not keep tracks in place like other editors. Also How can I relink audio to video clip? “
No need to “Detach Audio” to begin with. To make L and J cuts hit Ctrl-S to show audio track and trim the audio separate from the video. Hit Ctrl-S to collapse it again.
The only tricky thing is in a Secondary storyline, you can’t lead with audio. You have to put a blank clip in (Ctrl-W) at the beginning to be able to do this. But this is a specific circumstance.

You can’t apply transition effects to the audio channels. The audio fade transition mentioned above has to be applied to the video channel. But you can’t visualize it in the lane mode. I’d recommend teaching them how to use the fade handles. While it might be a little more work, it’s also the most precise.

Mostly I want to do the opposite of what you’re doing, having it hold at the beginning and end of the shot. Which is why I made my own Pan and Zoom plug-in. It’s an effect you drop on a photo or video in the timeline.
But you can accomplish what you want with this by making the Position Ease parameter “0”. It won’t extend the begin and end points past the length of the clip, but it will be moving at full-speed when you cut or fade to it.
To use this properly you need to set Spatial Conform to “Fill” first if the photo is not a 16×9 orientation.

FCP X doesn’t actually work with VST plug-ins. Only Audio Unit plug-ins. Many plug-ins install both VST and Audio Unit versions. So the ones that work are doing that. Some of your plug-ins may be VST only which means they won’t show up in FCP X.

I’m really digging the Hue-Saturation curves. And the luminance curve is large enough to make much more precise adjustments than Color Finale. Speed seems on par with CF. I haven’t tracked any masks yet, but having the even stationary masks is beyond what you can do with CF. Also, it seems more solid crash-wise than CF.

This is how Canon XF names it’s files on the card when it records. It sticks a 1 on the end for the first clip, if it’s a long clip, then it splits it into multiple files 2, 3 and so on. When you use the Canon XF FCP X plug-in it eliminates that last number and combines all clips together into a single .mov. If you import the .mxf files without rewrapping that’s exactly how it will come in.

That would be a completely unprecedented method for Apple. They seem not to care about maximizing the profit from an individual sale of FCP X, but rather selling more licenses and more hardware. There is an assumption here I think is that Apple is not developing the tools for these “niche” markets because they don’t see profit in it. Like it or not, I think what drives Apple is a vision for how their software functions as a whole. This does not lend itself to this sort of “add-on” structure.
To be sure, I would pay more for FCP X even as it is. Certainly for features I want. But I’m not sure that matters much. I certainly wouldn’t want to trade stability for features I don’t need.
On a side note, I think all plug-ins should be sold via the App market. I’m so tired of dealing with dozens of registration protocols every time I upgrade or do a clean install of the OS. It takes me almost a solid day to get a computer up and running because of this.

July 21, 2017 at 7:11 pm in reply to: make a trail follow a ball in the shape of a ball slowly fading outYou could move the ball around in FCP X using the position parameters or the free “Smooth Move” plug-in. Make a compound clip. Then apply to it a Motion Effect template using the “Trails” Effect. Publish all the parameters for use in FCP X. I think that would do what you want.

Not really. You’re supposed to buy a license for commercial use. The free version is for friends and family only.

It just seems to me the improvements people want, while valid, are a bit minor and certainly not revolutionary in any way. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Integrated audio to word translation would be a massive leap forward. Yes, there are plug-ins, but they are severely limited by being tack ons. To really maximize the usefulness, it needs to be integrated throughout the editing program.
