I think certainly they knew the possibility that Apple would improve their color correction tools. And Chromatic especially has features which Apple likely will never have like tracking masks. Color Finale has X-Rite Color Checker integration.
As a user of Color Finale, I welcome Apple’s addition. It’s always better to use integrated solutions in my book. They stay with projects long term. Are less buggy. Render faster. You don’t have to maintain licenses, etc. It’s a win-win for the editor.

The audio clips all have connection points to the primary (where the video is). See all the short vertical lines? Thus anytime you move the video the audio is going to stay in the same location relative to the video.
I think the simplest way to handle your situation is to move the video out of the primary. Cmd+Opt+Up Arrow. This way both are connected to an empty primary and can be moved independently of each other.

It will truly be never enough. But given modern camera capabilities and computer processing speed, the real bottleneck is now lack of adequate storage space. Developments in storage are actually rather slow now. We used to jump from 2 TB to 3 TB within a year increasing capacity 50%. Now we are going from 12 TB to 14 TB which is only a 16% increase.
I’d love to shoot RAW with my C200 camera, but I can’t. CFast cards aren’t large enough. For the amount of media I generate in a year storage on the server is ridiculously impractical. So I wait… and shoot 150mbps MP4 in the meantime.

I’ve been using SpeedScriber pretty much for every project I do now. It’s an enormous time-saver for those of us who make interview-centric videos. Martin is also incredibly responsive.
Nice review. I’ve been using clip-based transcription, but I’m going to have to look into round-tripping. It seemed a bit complicated from the outset, but ability to select audio channels would be really helpful with accuracy. I’ve also had weird timecode issues with C200 files, which apparently this workflow would address. It would also allow me to work with MP4 files directly as opposed to rewrapping into .mov.

I made a 3D plug-in with a few extra features. One of those is having a Drop Zone for the back side. So drop your coin in the timeline. Drop “Brett’s 3D” on it. Set Spatial Conform to Fill. Then put the back side in the Drop Zone. Adjust scale as needed. The you have full 3D transforms available to adjust on it.

That makes sense. I’ve been out of the freelance biz for about 10 years now and never was a job to job type person. I had a very small cadre of regular clients.
One also wonders how much resentment also played into facilities moving to other platforms. Though FCP X at the beginning had some crucial deficiencies for larger facilities. As I mentioned before which caused issues for me, the lack of being able to store libraries on a central server would be a big hurdle for them.
Which makes me wonder, if FCP X had library organization, SMB support, media storage outside the library, audio lanes from the get go, whether it’s support would have plummeted so much. Sure there were those that didn’t like the trackless arrangement. But having switched from tracks to trackless, I can say that the hurdles would not have been as great as imagined. Especially if lanes had been there to partially mollify the switch.

Interesting to hear your take. It seems the biggest hesitation you faced in exploring FCP X was resentment from the roll-out. One wonders how many others are in that same boat and had Apple handled the release of FCP X better whether there would have been this massive anti-FCPX movement. It certainly is a lesson for all software developers.
There were others like me that didn’t freak out, and just waited. When FCP X had what I needed I jumped in. Was it 100% smooth. Nope. Starting out with ill-conceived Project and Event architecture (before libraries) and inability to store them on SMB servers created big hassles for me. But I was editing more efficiently than ever. So that kept me there.
Yesterday, I managed to edit a 2 minute video combining 8 interviews with about an hour of B-Roll on a 3 hour train ride from Newark to Washington, DC so I could release that evening. Frankly, I don’t think it would have been possible with Premiere for many reasons. That’s why I stick with FCP X.

Why would having OS on different disk formats matter? It’s pretty much invisible to the user and its not like you’re swapping system drives back and forth. I’m not even sure when formatting an external drive if it matters whether what your system drive is.
I personally don’t see any reason to jump in anytime soon. But I’m not overly concerned when I get a new Mac either. The only thing may be if some day they drop HFS+ support in the distant future. But I got much bigger things to worry about.

I don’t think so. I definitely want it too. I find the interface of Color Finale and Chromatic kludgey and inefficient because of the floating window which I can’t find a good place for. And FCP X’s Color Corrector renders so much faster. Presumably that could also be true if it were expanded with more options. Hopefully if Apple does add better color correction tools they would also add a special interface window for it.
I find the color correction tools in Apple Photos to be remarkably powerful. It’s crazy to me that a consumer program has more powerful features than a professional tool.
