    wha wha wha –
WD already announced the 14 TB SATA drives-
    https://www.pcworld.com/article/3147726/storage/wd-will-make-a-record-breaking-14tb-hard-drive-available-next-year.html

    https://www.pcworld.com/article/3162084/storage/seagates-roadmap-includes-14tb-16tb-hard-drives-within-18-months.html

and what does this mean –
it means that the loser newbies that “have to edit in RAW format” with 8K will be out of room on their 180 TB RAID arrays as quickly as “we” were with 9G drives with AVID. It will NEVER be big enough. Do you actually think that 8K will be a big deal in 2020 ? Do you actually think that 16 TB drives will be a big deal in 2020 ? Do you think that your computer will boot up in 5 seconds in 2020, or will it be as slow as ever. Do you think that Premiere/Resolve/Media Computer will work faster in 2020 with 8K files than it does now. Will your wife think that “the picture is SO MUCH BETTER than it was in 2015” – OF COURSE NOT. This is a game that only WE appreciate. No one else does. And Bill Davis will be the first person to edit with FCP XX on the iWatch and tell us that we are all idiots and that editing 8K on the iWatch is the best thing that ever happened to the professional video industry.

I feel so “old fashioned” now…

It will truly be never enough. But given modern camera capabilities and computer processing speed, the real bottleneck is now lack of adequate storage space. Developments in storage are actually rather slow now. We used to jump from 2 TB to 3 TB within a year increasing capacity 50%. Now we are going from 12 TB to 14 TB which is only a 16% increase.

I’d love to shoot RAW with my C200 camera, but I can’t. CFast cards aren’t large enough. For the amount of media I generate in a year storage on the server is ridiculously impractical. So I wait… and shoot 150mbps MP4 in the meantime.
