That almost makes it seem like Apple was downright strategic with FCP X. Create a unique product that stands separate and let the others fight it out. It could be that it was completely accidental, but it seems to be working pretty well for Apple. If Resolve does take down Premiere, that would be an extremely short run for Adobe as an industry leader.

Does it happen with other title templates? I would test that to see if somehow the Basic Title template got corrupted somehow.

The problem is Apple isn’t pricing the HomePod for that strategy. Compared to Google and Amazon, Apple’s device is grossly overpriced. It would have to be superior by leaps and bounds. And all indications are that it isn’t. They are trying their iPhone pricing strategy where they were market leaders. In the home device they are far behind and need more aggressive pricing to catch up.
I own Mac computers and iPhones, but I much prefer the Amazon ecosystem. I don’t know what Apple can do to get me back in the camp. It won’t be easy and they will have to start delivering better value for the money. I’m already thinking of ditching iCloud because it’s going to start costing me $10 a month in a pricing schedule that is outdated.

I have basically the same setup you do. And have similar problems. My sense is that the NAS/OS X interaction is the culprit. There just seems to be occasional weirdness. Losing write privileges suddenly, but rarely. Periodic beach balls are fairly common. My sense is that the more shared folders you are connected to, the worse it gets. Beach balls seem less likely when I’m connected to only one shared folder.
Reboots of the Mac seem to help. But I’d love to hear what you find out from QNAP. I plan on upgrading the QNAP firmware to see where that gets me. Then hopefully this fall, the next Mac OS. I’m on Sierra hoping to skip High Sierra.

Actually what I really want is a utility that will look at an XML file. Allow me to set a folder location. Then only copy files that are not on the same drive as that folder because I just want it on the same drive. It doesn’t have to all be in the same folder. But I’d be happy if the Consolidate function actually worked.

Yeah it worked at one time. I don’t know if it has anything to do with SMB storage. I mean it’s pretty simple.
I set up a new library. Create an external media folder. Set that as the storage location for Media and Cache. Then I import new footage into that folder.
Then if I need to grab a shot from another library I open that library and copy and paste or insert a clip in my project timeline. I keep preferences at “Leave files in place” because I don’t want to copy the media over at this point.
Then once I’m finished. I just simply hit the “Consolidate” button and wait for the magic to happen. It doesn’t, it seems to copy a single file or something that takes about 10 seconds then stops. All the media remains where it is. Even if I change the preference to “Copy files to storage location”. Which I shouldn’t have to do anyways.
I’ve even tried exporting an XML of the timeline. Importing the XML into a new library. But no dice. Still no files get copied.
At this point are there any products that will do this outside of FCP X.

I wonder if there is a mismatch with the Motion templates. Can they send you the Motion template they used to create the titles?

I used to use Rev.com until I got onto SpeedScriber. Speedscriber is 100% automated and Rev.com is automated then corrected by a human. So it depends on how much accuracy you need, how good the audio quality is, how fast of turnaround you need, and how integrated into FCP X you want the transcript.
PROS
Rev.com – More accurate, better for poorer quality audio, better for strong accents
Speedscriber – Turnaround in minutes, integrated with FCP X so faster to work with once you have the transcript————————–

I think what you actually have is audio that FCP X is interpreting as “Stereo” where you have lavalier in one channel and maybe silence in the other. So you need to go to the Audio inspector and change it from “stereo” to “dual mono”
