I use PC Versions of the GTX-980Ti in my 5,1 Mac Pros because there a lot cheaper than the Mac Modified Versions. Because of the Gen 2 PCIe Bus Architecture in those systems the only benefit you would likely see with a 1080Ti is the extra RAM when applying a lot of heavy nodes on clips. You will be less likely to run into the “Out of GPU Memory” error. I saw almost no playback or render performance increase when I went from 980’s to 980Ti’s so I doubt if a 1080Ti will be any better than the 980Ti in that respect.
All my slots are full so I don’t have the luxury of installing a Mac Card like the GT-120 for my GUI. My trick is to initially install the OS and Nvidia Web Drivers with a Mac GT-120 in slot 1. I then turn on Screen Sharing, shut down the system and then put the PC GTX Card into Slot 1. I do this because everytime Apple releases a Security Update my Monitors don’t come up after the reboot until the Nvidia Drivers are updated. I then Screen Share into the system, update the Nvidia Drivers and after the Driver Reboot my Monitors come back up again. It’s also handy when I need to reset the PRAM and the OS Reverts to the Mac Drivers. In that case I can Screen Share in, switch to the Nvidia Web Drivers and after a Reboot once again my Monitors are back in action.

January 9, 2018 at 7:12 am in reply to: titan x pascal – sold out – want to add other graphic cards -> suggestions?Try to find another Titan X on eBay, it’s generally best to stick with the same GPUs. I would say it’s even best to install the same brand and version of GPU so you have 3 or 4 identical cards.

I’m using GTX-980Ti’s with great results on my two 12 Core 2012 Mac Pro’s wth EL Capitan. I’ve mentioned this because if you are going to use a Pascal Card like the GTX-1080 you must be running at least Sierra 10.12.4 or higher. I’m currently upgrading to Sierra for Resolve 14 myself and will stay with the 980Ti’s. Because the PCIe Bus Architecture on those Mac Pros are Gen 2 there will most likely be absolutely no increase in performance with the 1080’s. I saw almost no improvement when I went from 980’s to my current 980Ti’s but since I picked up two Ti’s for $500 on eBay I got rid of the 980’s anyway.
I’ve heard of people having success with the 1080 but I haven’t tried one myself. If you are using a GT-120 for your GUI then you can use a PC Version of the 1080. If you want to just use a PC Version of the 1080 alone then you will have to install the OS and Nvidia Drivers with the 120 installed and then remove it after a reboot and a full system shut down. I turn on Screen Sharing because evertime Apple releases a seurity update the monitors go blank until the Nvidia Web Drivers are updated. I remote into the system via Screen Sharing after the Security Update Reboot, install the Nvidia Drivers, Reboot and my Monitors come up again.
Note: You can find all the Nvidia Web Drivers at MacVidCards.com.

I second the post about the driver version you have installed.
If you installed anything newer than 10.8.6 on Yosemite then you will have nothing but issues. I had one Yosemite system at one time where PP and Avid would not run properly or at all until I went back to V10.7.1 of the BM Drivers.

January 2, 2018 at 5:47 pm in reply to: adding a new SMPTE timecode track to QT clips using Premier ProSorry I was wrong about the length detection.
It does of course detect the proper Video length.
I haven’t used it for a bit and I believe that I was thinking about one of the versions that had a bug in it where it was incorrectly detecting the run time of the video file. I just ran a quick test now and it correctly detected the run time of the video file that I gave it.\”MY MEDIA/PROJECT MOTTO: If you think three copies of your Media or Projects are enough. January 2, 2018 at 4:49 am in reply to: adding a new SMPTE timecode track to QT clips using Premier ProI forgot to say that LTC Generator will also allow you to create BWF LTC Audio files that you can bring into Premiere and cut into an Audio Track as well. All around it’s a great little utility for LTC Audio. I just wish that it auto detected the length of a video file instead of manually entering it so that the LTC doesn’t accidentally run shorter or longer than the Video file.
I generally pad these Video Files with 1 second of head black and then round off the end so that the length of the file is say 19:23:00 or 19:24:00 instead of 19:22:12 as an example. I’ve never had a complaint when I do it that way so I thought I would pass that on to you. Just be very careful that you set the TC to the same frame rate as the video.

LTC Generator is what you will need to add LTC Audio.https://www.videotoolshed.com/product/ltc-generator/

January 2, 2018 at 3:51 am in reply to: Any way to relink clips in timeline to new Merged clip?Even if you are able to link to the new Merged File with 12 Split Tracks your going to have to recut the sequence anyway. Your timeline currently has a single Stereo Audio Track or two Mono Tracks and so the other 10 Tracks of Audio will not just magically show up in the Timeline. The Merged Clip doesn’t have the same metadata as the unmerged clip does so Premiere sees it as a totally new and unrelated asset.
Unfortunately cuts should always be done with the merged audio right from the start. If the client couldn’t supply this audio right away the cut should be held off or he should be paying for a recut when it does arrive.

This is a very old system.
The CPU is a first Gen i5, the RAM is only DDR-667 and the GPU is older and underpowered. RAM may not make much of a dfferrence with a system like, this especially for 4K Editing.\”MY MEDIA/PROJECT MOTTO: If you think three copies of your Media or Projects are enough.
