July 11, 2012 at 4:48 pm in reply to: Down Scaling HD project for SD DVD- AE or Compressor?I keep seeing everyone mention Kona cards for the best downconversion. How exactly does this workflow go? Are you laying to tape and then capturing that, or is there some type of utility AJA ships with it to avoid going to tape first?

August 23, 2011 at 4:58 pm in reply to: H.264 glitchy video and some experience with the device so farHas anyone had an issue of audio channels being swapped on the recording? For example channel 1 out of my camera records to channel 2 in the software, and channel 2 on my camera records to channel 1. Also if I disable an audio track it still records both channels.

You can try the “QT Repair” function in this utility to see if it will get you anywhere – https://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcs_maintenance.htm
Does the size of the file seem correct?

If you’re planning on using composite out then I would get a Canopus ADVC-300 or ADVC-1000. I prefer the 1000 because you can tweak the image settings and audio coming in. If I remember correctly there is even an EQ and compressor on the 1000 if you want to use it. The 300 is pretty much a simple analog to DV converter with no way to adjust the image. Anyway, I use both of these boxes for both Windows Media and Flash streaming and they both work fine. Pretty much just hook up your camera and plug the box into your computer and you’re ready to go with whatever software is needed for your stream.

If there is no clipping/going over 0dB onsite during the recording would the recorded AC3 audio be nearly identical to what the PCM would have been? I know this is a somewhat subjective matter though so any thoughts would be appreciated. Again since I don’t have the cameras in house I’m kind of going on others’ thoughts. Thanks

Very informative explanation, thank you for that.
Our source footage is basically live music events – do you think the home viewer would be able to perceive the difference between recording in AC3 over PCM? Unfortunately all of our cameras are out around the country and I have no way to test the difference between the two.

You will need some type of conversion box between your laptop and the camera. What format of streaming will you be doing? Flash/Windows Media/etc
-
What software did you use to convert the original footage to the .MOV?

October 8, 2010 at 11:05 pm in reply to: Importing AVCHD gets slower with longer clips?Question – if your end product will be a DVD using AC3 audio does recording AC3 matter? I have this same problem with my NXCAMs and if the audio quality in the end will be the same I would much rather use AC3 in the field.
