On the photography end, Hoodman has a guarantee no-failure on their cards. You’ll have to read what this guarantee actually covers. I do know a lot of photographers prefer these cards. I haven’t used their product before, but since they are now distributing the MxM adapters, it may be something to look into.

You may also want to consider an external hard disk recorder for a backup for added redundancy. More money I know, but better than giving money back to a client and damaging your professional credibility.

If your not run and gun, you may also try hooking up a laptop and use it as an additional recording media format.

Sony’s SxS has dropped down close to $800 at B&H.

    Craig:

You make a good point about no head wear or threading. It’ll be interesting to see what actually wears after these cameras get a few more years of use.

Thanks everyone for your input. I have a battery belt, but I hate it. I’m mostly a run and gun shooter that has to be mobile; glidecam, remote locations, rice fields, weddings, etc. I prefer the snap on batteries purely for convenience and comfort. I just did a 10 hour shoot last weekend, so the added weight of a belt just wears me out…..I guess I’m getting older.

You may want to pay a few extra buc’s for your videographer to transcode the footage for you to MOV. Also have him supply you the original file for later use in case you get final cut.

Thanks for the info. I’m preparing to buy my first Ex1. This forum will save me a lot of grief and money. I didn’t know about the MxR adapter. Someone had mentioned this to me in passing a few months ago, but since I’m still currently tape based, it went right through both ears.

I see prices dropping on the SxS.

It works better if you convert to Pro-Res before editing. I can edit natively, but it’s very limiting. I cannot see my timeline on my external monitor unless I convert first. It is also very slow if I don’t convert first.
