The Canon 5D MkIII has proven to be an incredible camera with audio control and a very wide range of color dynamics.
The low light capabilities let you shoot with the ISO up to 7000 with little or no noise.
Sell you sony lenses. They don’t compare to the Canon L-Series.
One side note; There have been some people with issues. For some reason, some cameras have frozen up, causing loss of media, which is scary. I don’t know if there is a fix yet.

I’m about due for a new machine. That’s when I switch to Premier.

Grinner said it, use your people skills. I have a great 2nd shooter who gets to know the family and guests. He has a great memory and remembers everyone’s name. I on the other hand can’t remember most people’s names I meet for the first time.

February 28, 2013 at 6:35 pm in reply to: Any Final Word on Recording 5D Mark iii Video with an SD card instead of CF?I use 16 & 32 gb CF cards with no issues. I am also of the belief that breaking up your shoot on different cards will allow more piece of mind in case of a card failure, thus limiting major loss of footage.

Do you have other lenses that you can try? If it looks the same on different types of lenses then you can rule that out.
I have a 60D. As long as I stay below 1600 ISO, it looks great. I use all L-Series lenses. It’s all about the glass!

I agree that after years of use and camera might need some repairs. But, that is not the issue here. Too many people have purchased this camera with issues right out of the box or after just a few months of use. This is not a camera being worn out, it is obviously a firmware manufacturing defect.
It is not limited to 30 posts. It’s like a lottery. Some have issues, some don’t. I choose not to play the game until the issue is resolved.

February 20, 2013 at 6:00 pm in reply to: DSLR shoot, too much footage for 1TB HDD with conversion to ProRes 422… What can I do?Luckily, you can buy a USB 500 Gig Drive for under 80 bucks now. Even though you need 2 more drives, if that’s what is needed, then it is part of what you need to charge for in the future.

[Mike Drew] “At some point nearly every camera will freeze or lock up or otherwise stop functioning momentarily.”
I strongly disagree with this statement. I have shot with the 5D MkII, 7D, 60D, & EX-1. The only issue was with an early version of the EX-1. Once the firmware was updated, I never had an issue again.
This isn’t just a passing few. I’ve read comments from over 30 people just in the past week. It does influence my purchasing decision. Just like positive posts help me make decisions. You cannot just rely on manufacturer’s touting how great they are.
Of course I would be relying on this camera for my main shots. I would be using 3 of them. I cannot “Hope” it doesn’t freeze.
