I guess Twixtor seems to be the only choice. Have they simplified it yet?

  • Interesting. I haven’t noticed it on my 7D, but I just exported a video and while transcoding, it had about a 1 second freeze and then skipped. I don’t think this was the camera, since on my timeline it’s fine.

I wonder if anyone with a 5D Mk III is having these issues?

  • DSLR’s are not the best for keying. That’s where your noise is coming from. Converting doesn’t matter.

The canon 5D Mk III shoots amazing footage in low light. I’ve seen images using an ISO lf 7000 with no grain.

Sony’s new FS 700 is also great in low light, but it will squeeze your budget if you also need to buy lenses.

You just have to take the time to learn a new camera. I’m sure you have a lot of posts here to help you out. I shoot with an EX-1 and DSLR’s. The EX-1 always has the best overall image and color quality.

Learn to use the manual settings. Never leave it on auto.

I understand how frustrating it can be when working an event with DJ lighting or uplighting that changes colors. Try to find a time before the flashing happens so you can set your white balance.

Use your iris ring to adjust on the fly….don’t leave it on auto.

I don’t hesitate to go tap them on the shoulder and let them know to move. I love it when the isles have ribbon blocking the guests from entering the isle. I try to have someone directly in the middle during this time to help prevent this.

I usually have a 3rd unmanned camera. I sometimes get some interesting shots of people walking directly in front of that camera, not realizing it’s on. I’m starting to elevate that camera up high.

When the earthquake hit Japan, it created a shortage of tech related products including cameras and media cards. But there should be plenty of SxS cards by now. Check B & H.

  • It’s nothing to do with Encore. I never use my Mac for playback, only burning, so I can’t help you there. Yes it’s frustrating for sure.

Apple and others see the BluRay dying out along with DVD’s. Just like CD’s. Most will be delivered only in a digital format in the future.

Looks good at 24p. I would stick with those settings for this project.

A camera that shoots 4:2:2 color space is ideal for keying. DSLR’s are not the best for this.

I was a fan of the Panasonic AF100 until Sony announced their new camera, due to ship in July, the FS700U. It’s a bit more expensive, but an awesome camera. You can get an adapter and use your current lenses for that DSLR look and feel.

Here’s a link to the camera.

While the Mark III is a great camera, you’ll still need to record your audio separately. I have a Zoom H4 for sale if you decide you want to stay with the DSLR’s. You do need to record the audio separately if you want quality.
