  • I don’t quite get that. If I was thinking of using PP (which I am) I would go to the PP forum for my PP information (which I do). Do people who are thinking of using it require different information from those who are already using it? I would think the best place to get info would be from those who are already putting it through its paces, rather from other people like me who are interested but don’t have much first hand experience.

Reminds me of something the late Mitch Hedburg said, “I play the guitar, I taught myself how to play the guitar, which was a bad decision… because I didn’t know how to play it, so I was a sh**ty teacher. I would never have went to me.”

  • Really. I’m trying to figure out why all this PP talk is here instead of in the…I don’t know…PP forum perhaps?

I’m not anti-PP at all (in fact I plan on learning it) but I come here to read about FCPX.

Can I ask why you wouldn’t recommend the Photoshop route? Is it the time/convenience factor? I’m very proficient in PS for stills (Photography is my background) but I haven’t delved into its video capability much as of yet. High volume batch processing of stills I have plenty of experience with.

Actually, if you have Photoshop Extended version you can edit video, and I may be wrong, but I think you can apply any filters to video that you can on a still.

I suppose you could export an image sequence (I’d recommend TIF’s) out of FCPX and batch process the images in Photoshop similarly to the photog’s process. That’s if you have photoshop, of course, and the Nik plugin. Or you could get her to do it. I say process it “similarly” because obviously you’re working with lower res images and less dynamic range.

By the way, that over the top fake HDR look makes me throw up a little bit in my mouth. I wish it would die, but it keeps hanging in there.

The background will be black in the rendered file. If you don’t want to see a checkerboard pattern (which is what I assume you’re seeing) go to your Playback Preferences and change player background to black.

Looks like I’m still disappointed. 🙁 What would be the reason for not including this option among the zillions of other key commandable features?

-Ability to use key commands to adjust Clip Appearance settings in the timeline.

Nice. Just yesterday I really wanted key commands to increase/decrease clip height and was disappointed to discover I couldn’t.

[Steve Connor] “and a fix for the green frame bug”

Good. These green frames are killing me. And pink frames. (Is anybody else getting pink frames too, or is it just me?)

This is an incredibly vague request. By “dry” I would assume you mean your footage looks good but doesn’t have any look or effects applied. There are soooo many things you can do in color correction as well as video effects built into FCPX. There’s really no way to advise you on this without knowing the style/feel of the video. Only thing I can tell you is to throw different effects on there, tweak it, and see what you like. You can also add a 2nd color correction and play with the color/exposure/saturation pucks.
