  • Black layer behind images – easier way?

Is there any easier way to mask layers underneath an image that aren’t exactly 1920×1080? I’ve been using black “Placeholders” but it seems there should be an easier way within the idiot-proof FCPX – like “background layer is BLACK, not transparent” option or something.

The background will be black in the rendered file. If you don’t want to see a checkerboard pattern (which is what I assume you’re seeing) go to your Playback Preferences and change player background to black.
