We could cook up some cool stuff like this if the audio behaviour parameter could be published from Motion to X, but unfortunately it can’t be done…

But you can just build it in motion using the audio parameter behaviour and do an old school export to QT and bring into FcpX.

    Hi Emily,

I released a preset here on the cow a few weeks ago that may or may not help you.

[Brendan Gibbons] “This preset enables you to use animated masks to style your text in many different ways.”

Just to clarify, if you wish to use your own video / stills / textures as a mask to your text, first you need to select from the Mask Style Preset dropdown the option called >> Custom Mask

Now click on the dropzone image well.

A pop-up will appear asking you to “Click the clip that you want to use for “Custom Mask”. Then click apply clip

To get exactly the portion of clip you want, edit the clip to the timeline and trim as needed. Then select this clip as the source for the custom mask dropzone.

You can remove this clip from the timeline once you have populated the dropzone.

    Cheers,

    Brendan

Here is a link to one I cooked up in motion.

    https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/344/1645

An alternative to the built in censor effect with options for blur, mosiac, outline and highlight.

Thanks for the generous share of your own film scans!

One thing I did note was that the transition did not do anything when applied in fcpX, on having a look in Motion it seems that it doesn’t seem to like a group not being the same length as the transition.

After trimming the group containing the film scans to match the length of the transition project it then worked. Very nice transition effect it was too!

Perhaps this is a bug with transitions?

    Thanks again.

    Hi Alban,

Here is an updated version of the colour grading tools preset I did.

Download FCP X: BG Colour Grading Tools V2

It has been re-worked to remove any image unit filters which appear to be causing the problem with the transition to Lion.

    Hope this is useful.

    Cheers,

    Brendan

That’s odd, I’m thinking that is a Lion issue?…. have you upgraded to Lion?

I have upgraded to lion as well and am seeing the slight shift as well.

I’ll have another look at it, as I’ve forgotten what is used in it. I’m thinking it may be a Image Unit problem as some of them are a bit quirky I have noticed when publishing them to FCP X.

    Cheers for the heads up,

    BG
