September 8, 2011 at 3:07 pm in reply to: I need a video effect that adds a drop shadow to my video.Hi Robert.
As you have discovered, drop shadow controls are not available by default in Fcpx.
Many users have already created a preset using motion 5 and uploaded it to the forum here that gives you drop shadow control in Fcpx.
Why it was never included by default I just know. Just a “small oversight” on apple’s behalf.
I uploaded a preset just a few minutes ago that may do the trick as well.

Hi David,
I remember this popping up a few weeks back.
Have a read here, others have had the same issue.
https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/344/2998
Seems synchronize function only works with 23.98
A “slight oversight” on apple’s behalf!!!
The way around it seems to be manually lining up your audio and video, make it into a compound clip and edit that into your timeline.

[Paul Burgess] “there are many transitions available in fcpx but I cannot find where they come from.”
The default transitions / effects within FcpX are inside the actual application itself.
Custom transitions or any of the user made presets that you download (Effects, generators, titles, transitions etc.)will be the only ones that you will see in the user/Movies/Motion Templates/ directory structure.

If you don’t have motion 5 or the transitions folder is no longer there you can create a folder called “transitions” yourself.
However for fcpx to recognize it you need to add the .localized extension to the folder name.
If that doesn’t make sense, have a read of this pdf I typed up outlining the procedure.

Hope that helps.

Hi Paul,
Do you have Motion 5 installed?
Motion 5 creates the necessary folder structure where you can install custom presets.
Though you said the effects folder was there, so maybe the transitions folder may have been accidentally removed.

Hi John,
If you double-click on the text in the viewer you have the ability to change and edit each line of your text.
With the flashing cursor visible on a line, any changes you make in the inspector will only affect that line.
Highlight a portion of a line and any changes will affect just the highlighted text.
Hope that helps,
Cheers,
