This may do the job for you Jonathon.

FCP X BG I’ve got the power….window

– Blur the background
– set of colour controls to adjust background
– set of colour controls to adjust foreground
– adjustable size, position, rotation of window mask
– adjustable feathering of window mask

Extract to a folder of your choosing inside /user name / movies / motion templates / Effects
(e.g extract to a new folder called “Custom Effects”)

To be able to add transitions to your connected clips you need to change the clip, or selection of clips into a secondary story line.

Select the connected clip, then right click it and choose “Create Storyline” (command + G) Now it will function similar to the primary storyline, enabling you to drag and drop transitions, or by selecting the edit point and hitting command + T for a dissolve.

I think we are talking about the same thing?

You’ve marked a selection in your clip in browser, now you want to jump to the IN point and playback before editing to timeline?

Shift + i works for me, jumps to selection in point. Shift + O jumps to out point.

Have a look in the “Mark” menu at the top, “GOTO” submenu, selection Start, and Selection End.

I think the same FCP 7 shortcut here applies to X. Shift + I to jump to your in point.

One option to try is adding a “gap” clip.

From the edit menu, choose “insert gap” where you would like to place your section that is updated for each video.

You can then trim this clip to it’s desired duration, or select the clip and hit Control+D, the duration of the gap will appear in the timecode dashboard highlighted blue. Type
in a new duration and hit return.

I was just reading my post back, and I think it came across as if I was asking you if you could rig the dropzone visibility in your templates.

I was meaning that it appears it’s something not possible currently within motion anyway.

The only way I can think is that you would create a different preset per version

It’s more of a missing functionality from the rigging process I think.

You can build all the preset box styles in motion, and it’s easy to hide / show them using rigging.

e.g 2 box, 3 box, 4 box, 9 box etc.

But in total if there was about 20 different dropzones in the project they would all show up back in fcp X in the parameters inspector.

Which with all the parameters you can add it can get confusing pretty quickly.

So if you were able to rig dropzones so that they only appeared when you selected a preset from a rigged dropdown it would be ideal.

e.g back in FCP select “3 box style” from rigged dropdown and then it only showed 3 dropzones. Select “2 box style” from rigged dropdown and then it only showed 2 dropzones.

I hope it actually can’t do this after my complaining 😉
