Try closing any modal windows you may keep open. For instance, Popcorn Island’s background render module. 9.0.2 fixed this for me until I moved to Snow Leopard, now the crashes are back!

    Ben,

Were these cuts ‘edited’ or were some from live ‘switcher’ production? Through the years with various switchers from Sony to GVG to DD35 we have had this issue. This may not be what you are facing but for anyone else reading this maybe this applies.

Switchers can cut on any field. So you will get times when you cut on your timeline that one field is at the end of one clip and the other field is at the beginning of the other. However, most switchers do have a option or switch to force cuts on frames only which in theory eliminates the problem, assuming you have your facility setup and timed properly.

As a side note we have been going back and forth with ProRez and field dominance issues. Some of the Apple presets are Upper field first (good for you with PAL but bad for NTSC) and we ended up with a mess of problems with 6 editors all beginning to work in ProRez. Even when we think we have it all smoothed out it keeps causing problems between FCP, Compressor, DVD SP, SD/HDV footage, etc. We have actually had one show make it to air (or at least the uplink) with reversed fields… opps. Think we finally now have all working right.

    My bad…

You can’t drag the blue Keyframe indicator but in Numeric you can drag the individual keyframes.

I meant to reference Shatter not Explosion… sorry.

  • Just to clarify only the text portion that starts “do shell script …” goes into the Applescript and there are two seperate Applescripts listed there.

June 25, 2007 at 3:31 pm in reply to: strange layer behavior?

3D layers don’t respect the layer order. They rely on Z depth. Try moving your floor back further in the Z then size it up as needed to match what you want.

AE doesn’t allow 3D extrusion directly. Some plugins do. Invigorator and ProAnimator are the most popular. The Explosion plugin also does some extrusion so play around with that but not really designed for 3D text.

We use ProAnimator and love it. Couldn’t be easy to create 3D text, just type it in. It also allows for Illustrator Import.

February 15, 2007 at 5:18 pm in reply to: Problems ripping a DVD for use in FCP?

390th – After trying (and even buying) several utilities for this purpose I have finally come to two excellent and FREE apps. MacTheRipper and MPEG Streamclip. Now handling the occasional DVD’s we are handed for footage or B-roll is a breeze. MPEG Streamclip could charge $100 and it would still be a deal!

Just to confirm, could someone try this and post their results.

If this feature worked well for overlays it would say us LOTS of tedious mouse dragging.

    Thanks,

    Brad
