  • MetaSAN OS X (x86): 10.4.11 compatibility?

Posted by Allan White on November 15, 2007 at 5:43 pm

Does anyone have any information about the recent OS X 10.4.11 update, and if it has any compatibility issues with MetaSAN/LAN. There are a lot of other updates that rely on this OS point release: Quicktime, iTunes, the lates Pro Apps update which addresses several Final Cut Studio bugs and adds new features. More info here.

Here’s another question: does MetaSAN actually look for an OS Version string (“10.4.10”, etc.) as a compatibility check? I’m just wondering if things will work, or if it’s an arbitrary check.

I’m sure the engineers are all hard at work on a Leopard update; is it safe to upgrade MetaSAN machines?

    Hi Allan,

Yes, Apple sure knows how to keep its developers busy!

We are currently validating 10.4.11. This is sad, but we do not get releases from Apple before anyone else. So, until our QA cycle is completed (end of next week), MetaSAN users should hold back upgrading to 10.4.11.

Our engineers are also working to compile a new version of MetaSAN for Leopard (the current 2.2.3 build doesn’t support it), and so far, things are looking good. 🙂

    Hope this helps,

Unfortunately, FCP, Quicktime and the OS are very tied together.

We had an FCP 6.0.2 Project come into our facility. We couldn’t open it with 6.0.1. (newer version….)

In order to get the 6.0.2 update, we had to upgrade to 10.4.11 AND Quicktime 7.3.
I was very nervous about this.

After upgrading to 10.4.11, MetaSan 2.2.3b244 no longer works.

I couldn’t even uninstall MetaSan as the Installer would also hang. The only way I was able to uninstall MetaSan was to “SafeBoot” and uninstall. I tried to re-install, it worked for awhile. But then the computer wouldn’t Restart or Shutdown. After a hard boot I was in the same boat as before.
I need to “safe-boot” again and reinstall.

I do not blame Tiger/MetaSan for this problem at all. Rather Apple.

However, I think Tiger could have put a notice on their website or send out an email to their clients regarding 10.4.11.

    Thanks

Funny, the machine I am on got updated prematurely to 10.4.11 two weeks ago, yet works fine with MetaSan 2.2.3 Build 5b244.

This thread predates the MetaSan 2.2.5 release. Has anybody upgraded to 2.2.5 and had problems? Desperately needing to update our workstations…

    thanks

    Oliver
