The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

Every computer and software combo can behave differently.
I suggest you do a TEST (or two or three) using a short (3 min. or so) clip.
Then do the long version after you see how well everything behaves.

But, if you are mixing the music with voice, you would not want to leave the music at full volume (as captured,) anyway.
Mixing is something that must be done carefully while monitoring via good audio playback system/speakers.

Park the cursor on the first frame of the clip you want, and hit the “F” key, that will match-frame the clip on the timeline to the original clip (that has the audio.)
Then, just edit the audio track(s) back on.

If this is a DV tape, it has timecode automatically.
Timecode is built-in, as part of the format.If you can’t get FCP to capture your older tape (and you are sure you have FCP set up correctly,) you might borrow a second DV camcorder or deck and copy the old tape over to a new tape via FireWire, then try capturing from the new copy.
There is no need to pre-stripe tapes (with black and timecode) to shoot in a camcorder.
The camera will simply erase the black and timecode when you record over it again.There is a way to NOT break the TC when shooting.
During a “check-that-scene” playback in the field, you must PAUSE (not STOP) the camcorder at a point BEFORE the previous TC runs out. If you pause the unit, then while paused, switch to the Camera mode from VTR mode, the TC should continue, unbroken.
Many of us get into the habit of over-shooting before we stop the scene so that there is plenty of time to pause after the last take. I usually put my hand out in front of the lens for a couple of seconds while rolling the last take so I’ll know by sight when the end is reached.
Its a bit of extra trouble that can save an hour or two of dubbing back at the edit.

Balanced, line-level.
Its the analog “standard” in pro recording booths.
It might be “0” or “+4” or “+8” but it won’t really matter because…The nice thing about being in a recording studio is that the engineer can send you “tone” at his “zero” (average peak) level and will be able to adjust his output feed to match the camera.
So be sure to take some time before the shoot to get this set.
