As I started to say before the power winked out on me…

Regardless of the “flake-factor” of a given mic, if you plug something into the Mic INPUT on the camera, the mic is switched OUT of the circuit.

But I assume you to mean that there might be something “flaky” about the mic INPUT (pre-amps, jack, etc.)

I doubt that its anything more than a level mismatch:

Some small Mackie mixers only output LINE-LEVEL.
Which Mackie are you using?
The 1202 is LINE only, but the 1402 has switchable LINE or MIC-level on the back XLR’s.

LINE is MUCH “hotter” than MIC and the noise-level would be very loud if LINE is fed into Mic-level inputs.

Solutions:
1. Use mic-level output from mixer (if available).
2. Use a Line-to-Mic-level attenuator to drop the mixer’s output level to match the camcorder.
3. Use a Beachtek (XLR bridge) or similar adapter connected to the camera’s input. Use one with a Line-Level switch.

I’ve never had this happen to me.

First thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

What does this question have to do with “CD Audio”?

Regardless.

It indicates that you do not have enough media at the end (and/or beginning) of your clips for a transition.
You need to have extra frames before and/or after the section of the clip(s) that you are USING to allow for “overlapping” transitions (dissolves, wipes, etc).

If you are having trouble fading or mixing from the end of one CD track to the beginning of another, you need to place the edit-point EARLIER in the out-going clip, and/or LATER in the in-coming clip.

In the case of TAPE-source transitions:
I suggest that you make a STILL-FRAME on the last frame of your clip and fade THAT out for as long as you want.

-OR-

Change the SPEED of your clip (slow-mo) and that will allow for a longer fade-out length.

-OR-

Go back to your original tape and CAPTURE a longer clip (make the OUT-point LATER)
and then edit this longer clip in instead of the one you’re using now.

You must have fonts that are TRUETYPE (Type 2) fonts for use in the native FCP text generators.

ALL fonts for your Mac programs can go into the Mac’s regular font folder (FCP does not have to be “told” where they are.)

You can usually find TRUETYPE fonts available with many language characters on the web.

NOTE:
For more creative options you really should be using “Title 3D” (from Boris) for your titles and not the native FCP text generators.

“Title 3D” CAN utilize both “Type 1” and “Type 2” fonts.
“Title 3D” is included with FCP on your original FCP installer disks.
You must CHOOSE to install “Title 3D” (and “Title Crawl”) when you have the install disk in the Mac.

Click the graphic into the Viewer (left) Window. Then:
Modify (menu) > Alpha Type > Straight

If the key is “inverted” you may need to choose:

Hi Walter,

I’ve been in the production business for a long time (and I know you have, too) but I’ve never heard of someone saying that pasting a track to both channels “sounds better” than panning-to-center.

A single channel panned to center does need to be increased in LEVEL (by about 3-6dB) to equal “dual mono” level on output… but saying it “sounds better” is a new one.

The quality should be identical (sound the same) either way. No?

Where/how are you VIEWING your output?

You must only judge QUALITY on an external Video Monitor (not on the computer).

And every effect must be RENDERED before full quality can be attained.

How LARGE are your images?

If they are too large (say, over 2000 pixels across) they can cause image “jittering” due to extra-high resolution.
Adding a .25 to 2.00 amount of Gaussian Blur Filter in FCP can reduce these artifacts on high-rez images.

Generally speaking, unlike video with requires DA’s or bridging inputs so as not to “Load down”, most pro-level XLR lines can be “paralleled” and sent to 2 or 3 sets of inputs without signal degradation.

But, if you want, you can build a “bridge-splitter” with about $2.00 worth of Resistors and keep your outputs pretty much isolated.

Building a splitter is similar to building a “pad” for balanced output. You’ll deal with pin 2 and pin 3 (no need to involve pin 1 -the shield) in the circuit.

Assuming a 600 ohm balanced output, you would want an “H” pad that loads the output to approximately the proper amount (around 600 ohms) Again, these are not critical values.

The following represents the pad/splitter (dashed lines are just “wire” the “//////” represent a RESISTOR.
There will also be a resistor between points B and E (see below).
