Normally, this is done using TWO-CHANNEL audio.
Music, effects, and sync-sound on one track,
and the VO on the other.News operations get these kinds of tapes frequently.
Many stations don’t use other than the “main two” audio channels (even if the gear can play it) as it can get very complex to re-route/mix multiple channels “on-the-fly”.Its wise to keep it very SIMPLE so the news editor can QUICKLY make the correct audio track choice.

August 30, 2005 at 11:14 am in reply to: Pitch Shift sounds like Phase ShiftingA 10% change is actually a very large amount.
One can’t make this kind of change and NOT hear the “processing”.
Better to re-cut the voice-track with the talent, or to make cuts in-between phrases and create longer pauses in the track you have now.

1. LOCK all the video tracks in the timeline.
2. Edit the audio tracks. -

They are for earlier versions of FCP, but the basics are good and they are easy to follow

Under what conditions does your Mac “see” the camcorder without FCP?

August 27, 2005 at 6:02 am in reply to: HDV-Print to Video issueWorth a try:
“Force” the clip to render in FCP.
Add a “do-nothing-visable” effect to that clip so that FCP will NEED to render it.
Then do an audio Mixdown and try to dub it out again.

August 27, 2005 at 5:55 am in reply to: strange render problem when attempting to exportWell, if they don’t ACTUALLY BECOME unrendered (a red line TEMPORARILY appears), I wouldn’t sweat it.
FWIW, my first guess is that its a minor display glitch (or that the timeline temporarily loses connection to some of the render files). It MIGHT be fixed if you try “trashing” the FCP preferences.
Click the following link for more info.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCPro & FCExpress.Download these free Apple Scripts at

August 26, 2005 at 11:27 am in reply to: Audio and Video lose sync on captureAre you capturing the audio and video to the same file in the Capture Scratch (NOT splitting audio and video to separate files)?
Have you tried capturing in under-15 minute segments and not one entire tape at a pass?

How do they appear to you so that you think they become “unrendered”?
