I simply read what you said in your post.I feel very hurt by your severe comments to me.
I’m new to bulletin boards and to video production.I didn’t know that a simple response could be taken so badly.
I’ll try to be much more sensitive and caring if I ever decide to post again.

It IS as simple (or complex) as shooting.
You start with the “water bead” shot (on clear glass, over black) and key/composite it with a slightly off-set and blurred “sliver” of the video clip that’s “under water”.
The off-set sliver would wipe-in directly in sync with (and the same shape as) the “real” water bead overlay.
The “real” water-bead clip gives you the outline, shape and REALISM you need, and the off-set and blurred “under-image” gives you the illusion of viewing a distorted image “THROUGH” this water bead.

Why “simulate” it?
Why not just SHOOT it?It will take a little creative setup, but using some thick, clear fluid and an eye-dropper will get you some nice “trickles” on the bottle.

I still don’t know exactly what you’re trying to do with the footage, so whether it will do you “any good” depends on the need.
The DV25 image itself will never get any “better-looking” no matter how you capture it, but KEYING might be a bit cleaner and added GRAPHICS will definitely render cleaner if you capture and edit in a lower-compression codec.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).

This is one FCP tip that has helped in solving hundreds of “odd” problems.

It means that there have been discussions as to whether it DOES or NOT actually WORK… as there are so many DV camcorders that may or may not offer a 4:2:2 analog output.
Some report that is does the job, but others see no significant improvement.
OTOH, I get good results with chroma-key in FCP with DV “as-is”.
There are also good 3rd-party keyers (DVMatte Pro, dvMatte Blast, Ultimatte DV, and others) that make DV keys look cleaner.

You will only LOSE QUALITY (and TC) going in via the Beta Deck.
DV will transfer at its BEST via FireWire.
It will stay in its “purest form” not lose an analog generationWHY are you doing this?
