Subtitles
Posted by Lori Miranda on November 8, 2005 at 6:55 pmI was wondering what the easiest way was to put subtitles in my FCP project. Is it just like inserting regular text titles? Also, if I am putting Spanish subtitles, how do I get the accents? Is there a place that has foreign signs? Thanks so much.

November 8, 2005 at 7:15 pmMost fonts have alternate letters with accents and punctuation.
Many times you can hit the “Option” key while hitting a letter to get to the alternate characters.
Go to the Mac’s “System Preferences” and choose “International”.Otherwise, just Google for THOUSANDS of fonts of every kind avalible.
Look here for a very inexpensive ($10 USD) sub-title plugin:

November 8, 2005 at 8:49 pmThanks so much for the link. If I don’t buy the plug-in, do I do the subtitles like any other title?

Sure.
But the DH Subtitle PlugIn will allow you to add a “box” around the titles automatically (as well as put them in the same spot each time, automatically.)
If you don’t NEED a box around the titles,
I would not use any of the “native” FCP titlers under the “Text” pulldown (such as “lower 3rd”.)
You should use the “Title 3D” in FCP as it is a much better titler. -

November 9, 2005 at 4:37 pmHi!
We use Belle-nuit subtitler and it is a great and inexpensive subtitling tool for both FCP and DVD production.https://www.belle-nuit.com/subtitler/index.html

November 11, 2005 at 6:56 pmWoah,
There is no need to be rude about it. I actually did try to buy the $10 version but there was something wrong with the server and I contacted the company. I was curious as to another idea in case I couldn’t buy the version. I was on a deadline and didn’t have time to wait. I thought this was a site full of helpful people, not judgmental jerks who seem to think they are above everybody. Do me a favor, Matte, and don’t respond next time. -

November 11, 2005 at 9:39 pmI just thought you didn’t want to spend the $10.
I simply read what you said in your post.I feel very hurt by your severe comments to me.
I’m new to bulletin boards and to video production.I didn’t know that a simple response could be taken so badly.
I’ll try to be much more sensitive and caring if I ever decide to post again.
