okay, i’ve got my little mini-dv camcorder patched into my 1800 Beta deck, and am getting a good signal into FCP…but when i hit “capture now”, it begins to look like it will capture, but then fails and says, “Capture Now has reached the end of the tape. All existing footage between the point where you started the capture and the end of the tape was captured succesfully.” (although, of course, nothing was ever captured)

what am i doing wrong here? surely i dont have to first transfer the footage to BetaSP tapes and then do a capture???

thanks for helping out a bonehead,

aha! reading through the other thread, ” “, i found the answer…changing the device setting to “Non-controllable device” (i figured this setting would only work with wives!)

    thanks for the forum!

Just remember, you will not have any timecode correlation between
the mini DV tape and the timecode FCP generates when you do a
“non controllable device” capture. This may not matter to you
unless you will need to recapture the material in the future.

Also, why not just hook up a firewire cable to your Mac
and the mini DV camera or deck?
Then you get timecode and possibly a better picture.
You get no improvement by capturing component, a DV signal
    through an 1800.

    Dan is so right.

You will only LOSE QUALITY (and TC) going in via the Beta Deck.

DV will transfer at its BEST via FireWire.
It will stay in its “purest form” not lose an analog generation

    WHY are you doing this?
