You should monitor from the decklink audio outputs to match your video.
You can just get some audio adapter cables and use an A-B switch ($20 or so) and switch the Soundsticks between the Mac and the Decklink when you need to.

As far as video compression, if you have FCP5, many recommend “H.264”.

Isn’t that just the speed at which the file TRANSFER takes place, and NOT anything to do with the compression on the file ITSELF?
When I do this, I just export the DV timeline to a Quicktime Movie (SELF-contained, Current Settings) and then just upload that QT file (without further compression) to the station’s FTP site.
That station opens the DV file and transfers it to tape (for backup) and a server (for on-air playback).Using a DSL link, a 30 sec. DV spot takes me about 50+ minutes to upload.
Regardless, you need to discuss this and find out EXACTLY what the folks on the other end NEED.

I have never, in 25 years of “home video” observation, seen a camcorder whose mfg. did not ship with a power supply.
They must have a way to charge the batteries (some, even on the camera), and virtually all camcorders are designed to “double” as dubbing/”editing” sources.
If there is no PS with a camcorder, it was because:
A. Unscrupulous reseller “pulled” it from the box to charge more.
B. Used unit with a careless owner who lost it. -

What did the uplink folks tell you they wanted?
If they want BetaSP, then that’s the way to go.
Rent a BSP deck and dub to it.
You say you want to save transfers but if its going up as analog, and BSP is what they are used to… SOMEBODY is surely going to dub it to BSP before they uplink it. (But now I’M just guessing).
I still think there should be a way to go with DV masters from you, and uplink some other way (maybe from a PBS station that HAS DV, or DVCPRO in-house.
You should to TALK to the chief engineer(s) at some stations where this is going to play and see what THEY think.

Just record the audio to a DV camcorder or deck.
You’ll have DAT quality, TC, FW remote control and a copy of the audio you can easily save.When I do VO’s this way, I also point the camcorder at the talent (and soemtimes, me.) I can then “see” the session in post which can come in handy.
You COULD record directly into FCP using the “Voice Over Tool” but you’ll lose the ability to store the VO on a tape (without having to dub it out).

Well, it WILL let you.
You first need to select (highlight) the audio clips and make sure they are NOT a “Stereo Pair”:
Modify (menu) > Stereo Pair (UN-Check this).Next, delete the clips on A2 (Lav mic) by selecting them and hitting the delete key.
Then, highlight an A1 clip, and HOLD DOWN both the SHIFT and OPTION keys, while you “drag” that clip down to A2.
FCP will leave the original clip on A1 and create ANOTHER copy of it on A2.
Done. -
HDV comes in “directly” via FW.
If you are finishing out to SD and all other footage is SD you could choose to use the HDV camcorder to downconvert to SD DV for capture.
