I have never heard that Quicktime could add “words” to its exports.
Make sure you don’t have any “phantom” character generator clips on any of the tracks above V1 on your timeline.
Are you viewing your output (directly from the timeline) on an EXTERNAL VIDEO MONITOR?
FCP is designed to be used with a full-time external monitor (connected via FireWire and camcorder, or other connection) that will show what the actual output will look like. -

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).

You can create the moving (crawling) characters with the “Title Crawl” generator included with FCP.

To make the “flicker” faster to edit:
Overlap the beginning of clip B on a video track ABOVE clip A.
Then, just start “slicing” and removing very short sections of the B clip, shorter and shorter, (8 frames, 6 frames, 4 frames, 2 frames, etc.) until you just leave B up full.
This will allow the 2 clips to be alternately seen until just B remains full.

During recording, the switches would normally be:> R-Run
Real Time > OFF
Dolby > ON
VITC > (doesn’t matter)
AFM > 1/2 (normally)
If you need 4 discrete audio channels, set to >”3/4″

Play (and other control) buttons are under the little flip-up tab on the TOP center of the BVV5 (right above the silver word “SONY” on the side).
To record, you MUST have a video signal sent to the input (or the tape won’t “go” at all in record).
Put in a tape, and hit the red RECORD button on the record adapter.
It will record until you hit the SAME BUTTON again.Then you can rewind and, if you have the Playback adapter connected, the tape will play to a monitor connected to the playback adapter.
(The audio must be connected directly from the BVV5’s audio outputs.)

As far as taking the TC in from the Master tape to match on the Dub…
It depends on the deck.
A Sony DSR-11 (very inexpensive) WILL accept incoming TC from the master, if you connect via FireWire and set the deck to “External Timecode”.
Many other decks MAY or MAY NOT accept the master’s TC in from the FW, depending of how they are configured.
Most camcorders (when used as a “record deck” in a FW dub situation) will not accept incoming TC, but will only generate their own new TC on the dub.

DV SP usually does NOT SUPPORT inserts of any kind.
DVCAM (if the deck HAS edit features) WILL be able to edit.
It has to do with how wide “apart” the tracks (head-swipes) are on the tape.
At DV SP speed, the tracks actually OVERLAP and therefore can’t handle the “cut-in-and-out” without a (a likely) tracking problem.
At DVCAM speed, the tracks are just far enough apart to be able to track the insert in-and-outs.
I’d bet that IF a deck has edit features and they were not “locked out” at DV SP speed by the manufacturer, You could get a relatively clean edit.
The TC is a PART OF (built into) the actual digital A/V signal and not a separate TRACK like on BetaCam, so the entire signal on the DV tape must be “replaced” (re-recorded) to edit (change, add-to) any part of the audio, video, or TC.

How do you KNOW its from the bin and not the timeline?
Are you double-clicking on the track IN THE TIMELINE?If so, and it doesn’t work, you might need to “Trash” your FCP preferences.
