I’d have to disagree with you there.
I’ve shot and edited with literally hundreds of miniDV tapes for the past few years.
Virtually zero problems.
Far fewer than with BetaCam and BetaSP.
DV is a spectacular format, especially considering its low cost.

I have shot my DLP InFocus projector and the scan-rate is no problem (no flicker) if its input is from an NTSC source.
The color temp would be virtually the same as the Plasma’s (or any video display), so you’d need to insert a device to adjust the projector image’s color balance to better match the studio lights.

They don’t use a “scan converter” to do this.
Its actually a “Character Generator” unit.
CG’s can be configured as a video unit (“black box”) that connects to a standard computer (with proper software) and that actually generates video text (does not “convert” a computer image) with the proper format to key correctly and legibly over other video.
Or it can be a self-contained, stand-alone CG unit with its own keyboard and other input devices that generates the entire text and background and keys it over the running video.

Syncing all of your video takes on separate layers is a preferred way to edit these kinds of things if you don’t have FCP 5. (FCP 5 has built-in multi-camera editing.)
You can just stop playback at each point you want (need) a cut and click thru each of your angles, picking the one that best-fits the mood.
OR… You can “shrink” each of the video tracks (with “Scale” in the Motion Tab) and position each so that ALL tracks are visible (though small) at the same time. Depending on your system (and the number or tracks) you may need to render this temporary “split-screen” so that it will play in real-time.
This will make fast work of your cut decisions.
Each time you decide which of the shots you want in the final edit, slice it (razor blade) on both ends, and “shift-drag” (won’t slip) it up to a new, TOP video track (which will be ultimately be your “final” track.)
After you are finished making cut decisions, select ALL the clips on this TOP track and “Remove Attributes” so all the video will snap back to full size and normal position. -
Avid won’t play mp3’s either.
