rear projection on set
In past shoots in a studio we have used a plasma. As is described in a thread further down by another poster, the color temp of the plasma can be not so good. Also the plasma is expensive to rent.
Since we have a decent lcd projector, what would happen if we used a rear projection screen instead, roughly the size of a 50″ plasma (except 4:3)? Will the refresh rate and or white balance mess with the cameras?Thanks

I have shot my DLP InFocus projector and the scan-rate is no problem (no flicker) if its input is from an NTSC source.
The color temp would be virtually the same as the Plasma’s (or any video display), so you’d need to insert a device to adjust the projector image’s color balance to better match the studio lights.

As Matte says, most of the projectors available, Broadcast included, run at a colour temperature of around 9K wheras your studio lights will be around 3.2K. Adding a half or full orange filter will balance the light but you’ll lose some light in the process.
