Betacam SP: BVV-5 Record/Play Question
Posted by Nworldwide on December 6, 2005 at 8:21 pmHi Again,
Well, I finally got my set-up to make some Betacam SP recordings.
A BVV-5, with a VA-5 and VA-500.
It is hooked up and powered up. So how does it Play and Record? Obviously I need to get a manual, but in the mean time I want to see how it works. I can’t even find the Play button. Any tips would be great!
Thanks everyone,

December 7, 2005 at 1:39 amPlay (and other control) buttons are under the little flip-up tab on the TOP center of the BVV5 (right above the silver word “SONY” on the side).
To record, you MUST have a video signal sent to the input (or the tape won’t “go” at all in record).
Put in a tape, and hit the red RECORD button on the record adapter.
It will record until you hit the SAME BUTTON again. Then you can rewind and, if you have the Playback adapter connected, the tape will play to a monitor connected to the playback adapter.
(The audio must be connected directly from the BVV5’s audio outputs.)

December 7, 2005 at 5:26 amYes! It works. So that’s where the play controls are. Great Matte 🙂
Any tips for the settings in that other flip-down control panel on the front of the BVV-5? VITC, F-Run/R-Run, Realtime, DF/NDF, advance, shift. For the component input on the VA-5 this should do the trick, right?

During recording, the switches would normally be:> R-Run
Real Time > OFF
Dolby > ON
VITC > (doesn’t matter)
AFM > 1/2 (normally)
If you need 4 discrete audio channels, set to >”3/4″

“Advance” and “Shift” are for SETTING a specific TC start (“Set” position).[nworldwide] “For the component input on the VA-5 this should do the trick, right?

December 7, 2005 at 8:22 pmSuper. How about the DF or NDF?
Should I have the audio on Line, Mic or Cam?
Hopefully these record 30 min tapes even though the indicator only goes to 15 min on the VA-5.
Speaking of the VA-5, how about these settings: PB/EE, LNG/AFM?
Thanks!
