Not in an efficient and “useable” (full quality) way.
DV video takes about 13 GB per hour at native compression.
A DVD only holds 4.7 GB.
It would take at least 3 DVD per hour of DV tape. This DVD would NOT be playable on an standard DVD player (it would just be a “data DVD”) but the file(s) on the DVD would retain the full quality and Timecode from the original DV tape).
If you were to copy a DV tape to the computer HD and then have the DVD burning software burn the entire hour to the DVD (so it would play in any DVD player as a video source) you would be further compressing (and cutting the quality) of the DV tape’s footage (as well as losing any Timecode info from the tape).
Don’t know if its even possible to copy from a running DV tape via FireWire to a “recording” data DVD in the internal burner because the continuous data stream at the DV tape playback rate may be too fast for a DVD to burn.
The most efficient way to “store” DV is on a DV tape.
The second-most popular way is to dub from the DV tape to the computer onto an external Hard Drive and then keep the drive. -

Well, “owning” music is a rather LOOSE term used in this way.
In reality. when you buy a CD (etc.) you are not “buying” the music.
Simply “buying” any copyrighted work on LP, tape, CD, mp3 or other digital format, to “listen to” does NOT entitle anyone to use it as a soundtrack over which to edit video or pictures.
Oh, but wouldn’t it be an easier business if it DID?

Frank, the 1/4″ Phone-jacks are TRS (Tip/Ring/Sleeve) and Balanced, just like the XLR’s.
BUT… you WANT to use the 1/4″ inputs (the second set of 4 knobs) for all LINE-LEVEL sources because the ones on the “right side” of the mixer are STEREO (2-channels per fader) so you can adjust both channels of a stereo source at once.
If you use the “Mic” inputs (the first 4 knobs on the mixer)
even though you CAN use these inputs as “line level”, you get only ONE channel per fader… so you “eat up” more inputs for stereo sources and its very hard to adjust more than one fader at a time. -
Any of us who have worked at TV stations over the years have been asked to take a completed videotape of a spot made elsewhere and,
“Take off that old phone number and put on this new one.”
The next question is always, “Why can’t you do that?”
The beautiful “black bar” covering the video in that section of the screen was always a testament that the sales department had over-promised what the production staff could “easily” do.

How many people will hire you?
Can you afford to advertise and/or appear in trade shows?
Do you have access to enough music with “edit (sync) rights” to edit legally and make clients happy?
How much money do you need to make to consider it a “decent wage”?
And, most importantly, how GOOD are you at it?

All you need to do is add “mac” to any google search.

The terms “IDE” and “ATA” basically refer to the same type of drive and connection.
If its a “standard” internal Mac/PC Hard Drive, it will match the ribbon and power cables found inside the External Case.
You can buy cases for several PHYICAL SIZES of disks, so make sure its big enough (3 1/2″ drives are the most common size these days.)BYW, I buy my exteranl FW cases on eBay and just get the cheapest ones I can find ($25 or so plus shipping) and they work great.
To thrillcat e. who said there was no FW cable… it must have been accidentally left out by the mfg. or pilfered at some point… most all drives with FW connections DO come with cables (even my cheapies from eBay).

I don’t think there’s a Plugin per se, but there are ways to create one and use it in FCP.
