firewire External HD case
The firewire ports on my External Lacie drive are not working anymore, and I called Lacie to find out what can be done, and they said I needed to get a new casing for the IDE drive that is inside.
Can anyone recommend an external firewire case brand, company or website that will work well with my Powermac G5. I will be using it mostly for video editing, and I need it fairly quick considering I am in the middle of a project that I can’t touch right now, because of the broken firewire ports.

I just picked up a Mad Dog case at CompUSA for $60. It looks nice and works great so far, though I just got it last week.
One note, the box implies it comes with a firewire cable, but it only has USB cable included.

It says it supports “ANY” hard drive…and then lists brand names but what about connection types?
does that mean its able to support SATA, ATA, and IDE??
i need it to salvage a LACIE drive which is an ide connection.

The terms “IDE” and “ATA” basically refer to the same type of drive and connection.
If its a “standard” internal Mac/PC Hard Drive, it will match the ribbon and power cables found inside the External Case.
You can buy cases for several PHYICAL SIZES of disks, so make sure its big enough (3 1/2″ drives are the most common size these days.)BYW, I buy my exteranl FW cases on eBay and just get the cheapest ones I can find ($25 or so plus shipping) and they work great.
To thrillcat e. who said there was no FW cable… it must have been accidentally left out by the mfg. or pilfered at some point… most all drives with FW connections DO come with cables (even my cheapies from eBay).

I just get the cheapest ones I can find with:
A) Oxford 911 bridge
B) Internal FanFroogle and cheap Chinese manufacturing is your friend. I have found cases that work just fine in the $30 range. Given the right guts it might be even better than your LaCie. I put only the best HDs in my home built FW Drive cases, however.
