Why should DV does not do text well?

DV does not do proper color seperation, but a greyscale text should be as crisp as in uncompressed.

(and i’ve actually made about a couple of thousand titles in DV in the last couple of months…)

It highly depends on your definition of CC.
Closed Captioning is a broad term, and is not limited to any colorsystem nor carrier/container.

IOW, yes. it can be done.

Will your viewers be able to see it?
Probably not. But that goes for NTSC as well as other systems.

What are you after? There are a zillion proven workflows to deliver CC on final output.

Well,
It’s not a miracle machine.
It can of course only work if there is matching sound with a bit of quality. If that is missing, how could it work?
Personally i would not trust it if it’s more than a few clips, and always use proper TC to slave.
(After you once had to manually sync a few hundred clips you know why…)
But that of course is not a very easy option with the Zoom,
you must have an external TC generator and sacrifice one channel on the Zoom.
Possible, even an Ipod/Iphone can be master TC generator (more than accurate enough), and way more reliable in difficult situations.

I’ve got some gear from them.

The ‘carbon’ rods on the rails system is a joke.
It saves no weight at all, as the rest of the metal is HEAVY.

Stuff is half decent, but indeed dirt cheap.
Focus system (although nice with the magnets) has a fair amount of play.
Not a problem for most cases, but certainly not the best of the best.

Tim (i suspect the company is a one man operation) indeed does not respond to e-mails very well.
After my order i had to wait a couple of weeks, mailed him a few times but no answer. After about 3 phone calls (with voicemail that wasnt returned) he picked up, told me my stuff was ready to ship, and indeed it arrived here a couple of days later.

You get what you pay for.

I dont know the units, but there is no reason for a digital video file NOT to have TC.
(If it’s even half decent pro gear)

The DSLR cams are an exception, and i expect that they will get TC too eventually.

In the meantime, if there is no TC, you can add this to batch add it:

But do keep in mind that this generated TC probably will not match your tape TC, so if you need to go back to tape you’re in for a lot of manual work.

Is only the waveform out of sync, but not the actual sound?

A good experiment would be to wrap your BWF in QT.
(Open it, save as a QT by ref.)

If that fixes things, i’ve got something laying around here that wraps BWF in QT with timecode.

Not the most elegant way, but if it works…

Oi…
back in the tape days it was common practice to do inserts wherever you like them.
The only way to do a series of dissolves.
On a normal editor, you just mark in on the recorder, the player auto adjusted it’s inpoint so you could pick up the shot wherever you liked…
(This was called ‘match frame edit’)

And Avid lets you set inpoint/outpoints anywhere, and it works accurate.

You can make a fake XDcam disk if you copy the contents of a freshly formatted XDcam disk onto a harddrive.
(will be way faster anyways)

Watch out for FAM mode, you don’t want a PROAV folder…
