nah, ‘real’ import should do the trick.
perhaps you have to strip the sound first.
(extract video in QT pro, then save as self contained)

Not behind an Avid now….

But the Cinematools routine should work as well.

well, editing native H.264 seems impossible now, but we also thought so about long GOP MpegII…
Who knows what happens in the future, but for now, it sucks as it is way too processor intensive to decode.

Not sure what goes wrong with the import. It ‘should’ slomo the clips.
Did you transcode after AMA or a ‘real’ import?

Did you test this or is this an assumption?
It used to be in previous versions, but afaik, it is fixed since version 5

However, you need to subclip if there is a TC break in the recording.
This can happen if the cam shoots tape and is set to Rec Run. It then has continuous TC, while there are breaks in the LTC.
Avid cannot find those, but my software can!
Another option is to shoot TOD on the cam as well, but that will burden the ingest procedure of course, as Avid will need to preroll each clip. Pick your poison.

Not sure what you mean by the ‘ group definiton ‘.
Are you referring to multicam?
That can be done based on AUX TC as well, no problems there.

I don’t know anything about ProTools, but if you export your rough mix from Avid to Protools, it does not matter anymore, does it?
ProTools probably works with BWF files, and my software can convert Wave / BWF with LTC where the files get stamped the LTC tc in the files.
However, i’ve not done this for 32 channels. I could make it work this way, but i need some info on what you are recording.
(I take it you record mono, as with a 32 channel 24 bit Poly file your recording time would be very short…

Don’t edit the H264, you’ll go crazy…
Transcode to DNxHD.

For the speed change, open the Console, type IgnoreQTrate 1 or IgnoreQTrate True

Then import the clips.
I don’t know if this will work with an AMA transcode as well, but it definitly works with a normal import.
BUT, you’ll loose your sound. You can import that afterwards, but then you need to slomo the sound as well.

No worries at all.
Audio does not have an FPS, although you can do tricks with it to change speed.
But if it sounds right and syncs up nicely, you’ll be fine. Don’t think about it again.

I don’t know, but i do know that i have feature making clients.
(I’ve developed stuff to decode VITC and create QT files for Avatar…)

This is IT stuff, and has all the madness any IT work has.
If you are doing a feature, work like it. Meaning, test before commititing yourself to a given workflow, and whatever you do, do NOT ‘upgrade’ mid project to find out that your prooven tested workflow now suddenly does not work anymore.

I can guarantee that my stuff works, if you get it to work.
I cannot guarantee that it will work with any version of any given OS suffering from any kind of virusses or other mandness that can occur.

So yes, it works, and no, it is a piece of crap, like any piece of software…

again, this is IT stuff, and it follows other rules than your cat that will eat any food available *if there is nothing better..)

well, my point was, for 1500 bucks you have money to record just the sound…

iow, make a list of all the equipment you need, and don’t forget cabling.

You need a camera, tripod, mics, something to get the material inside your computer for post, some storage, means of transportation to the broadcaster…

And i take it the operators are volunteers?

And perhaps upgrade to 5.5, not that expensive and it will give you some goodies.

(Only watched the first one)
I believe this is an actual zoom, a bit in slomo.
Then perhaps a morph / repos to the close shot, as timing of the reaction is critical for the effect to work.
(and it is a really fast paced movie anyways, so a few frames more before the facial expression would be killing.)
