If you can edit in the native format and just render your final output for CC, the storage can’t be the problem, so you could go HQ.If you don’t want to edit with the native stuff, mediamanage to an offline codec, edit, relink to the originals and do the transcode to HQ then.
(Test the ENTIRE process before, you might need to add a Reelname to the clips in order to link back to the originals in case of trouble)Or, just test on a few problematic (read, not well-lit) stuff, compare normal to HQ and see how it holds up on heavy luma lifting.
As always, just trust your eyes.

If you convert 30 to 24 you need to trash 6 frames.
That can’t be done without serious rendering, and even then, the result won’t be as good as the original.
Converting 24 to 30 is way easier with added pulldown.
Look that up, and, keep in mind that for this you don’t want advanced pulldown, but normal!What is it with people think 24 looks better than 30?
30 has 6 frames more, that is better. Way less strobing image.Bouke

What i ment, i would not use Subtitle edit, and if you’re not very good with language and know the rules of subtitling, i would outsource it alltogether.Like any other craft, it looks easier than it is.

DVD’s contain 4 colored bitmaps for subtitles.
It does not matter if they are generated inside or outside the authoring package, and it should not matter to you.Creating the TIFFS is a very fast process. If they charge you for that, they better not charge too much.
There are several packages that can do this, one being my Subbits, the other Spherico’s TitleExchange with a PSD script.But normally the most effort goes into creating the content.
And you have taken care of that. (although not the best way imho, but if it’s just a few titles, well, why not.)For cost: the most imporant thing is the figure right down on the quote.
IF you like that, don’t think about it.
If you don’t, why not hire a smaller company that uses DVD SP?
(And with current internet speeds, they can be anywhere around the globe)

You probably need this:

(this can be done with QTchange and BWF-QT merge, both can be found on my site)

Are you sure it is the OS / hardware?
Perhaps Avid is acting funny.Do you have trouble with other applications using the port?
If not, do maintanance on the Avid software.
