afaik, you can’t.
TC is a property stored inside the actual clips (as well as the project…)
If the tc of the clips changes (outside fcp), fcp will try to relink based on the new tc, if possible.
If not, it will relink based on clipname and offset from the start of the clip.
(Download a copy of FCP relink from my site, the manual has lots of info on how / when FCP can relink.)
So, you need to modify the clips yourself.
Or, find another way to export your EDL, with correct TC’s.How did this happen?

How are you measuring your levels?
It’s normal in a video world to have lot’s of headroom.
(We use 9 dB over here for final delivery). In your encoding package, you can always amplify or normalize, depending on your liking.

Make sure you set ‘interpret footage’ right
(interlaced or not does not really matter if you do not scale, but interpreting the alpha right is essential, tell AE what it is, what it will become is set in the output / render settings)If the alpha does not come across, you probably have used an Avid codec.
(I take it you know to set the exporter to millions +, and not have a solid background in your comp…)Some avid codecs do not support alpha, although they appear to do so.
Try Animation at 75% quality (100% results in a 4:4:4 file, that’s overkill).hth,

AFAIK, Avid only supports straight alpha.
(Premultiplied looks ugly)
So, check your files what they are. If they are premultiplied, you can use AE to render them to straight. In older versions there was a ‘blooming’ bug, incorrect fading.
You can try adding a dissolve instead of fading up opacity with keyframes, or vice versa. The most brute way if nothing works is to make a copy of your video on a higher track, and fade out to the composit below (video + anim)
That should always work…hth,

In audacity, try ‘open raw file’ (or something alike)
This will force Audacity to ignore the header.hth,

well, in that case, why not convert the spanned clips to .mov again,
relink, and media manage to ProRes?
If needed, attach a few cheap external drives for the inbetweens.
Should do the trick, right?Bouke

Ben,
The Xdcam Extract is for optical XDcam, no good for this workflow. You can however use FCPreconnect.
(It can relink based on TC / tapename)
Do get the demo, as the manual explains a lot how / when FCP relinks, and when to expect problems.
https://www.videotoolshed.com/product/41/fcpreconnectBut, i’m missing the point here…
If you ingest the material without transcode, and then media manage to offline resolution, you should be able to swap out the offline / online material and media manage your final sequence to Prores.
Or what am i missing?Bouke

An outpoint is traditionally ‘up to’, meaning, the frame number is NOT included in the video.
So, (back in the lineair days), the outpoint you set is NOT included with the insert you make.
IOW, the first EDL is correct.hth,

well, depending on your footage, you might or might not be able to see the difference between Prores and Prores HQ.
After that, you are right, there will be virtually no loss in the next encode.
But to choose, judge by testing, or indeed use the offline / online workflow.
How many hours are you talking about?
Storage is cheap nowadays…Bouke
