Basically I need a quick way of replacing the Media Start column with timecode from an XML(created using a modified ALE in Cinema Tools). The offline material has different timecode than the source media so the EDL from editorial isn’t working.

    afaik, you can’t.
TC is a property stored inside the actual clips (as well as the project…)
If the tc of the clips changes (outside fcp), fcp will try to relink based on the new tc, if possible.
If not, it will relink based on clipname and offset from the start of the clip.
(Download a copy of FCP relink from my site, the manual has lots of info on how / when FCP can relink.)
So, you need to modify the clips yourself.
Or, find another way to export your EDL, with correct TC’s.

    How did this happen?

The footage was being recorded onto a Clipster then captured into FCP. The Aux TC(which contained the source TC) didn’t carry over into the XML which was generated from an ALE in the Clipster. It wouldn’t be a as much of a problem if editorial reconnected to the source media in FCP before exporting the EDL, but that apparently isn’t happening.

I still don’t know exactly what you are trying to do, but nevertheless:

If you have a XML with start TC’s that are correct, i can write an application to set the new TC’s on all clips.
Contact me direct if you want to discuss this.

But, wouldn’t it be easier to ask the FCP guys to do it right in the first place?
