And for the OP, if you burn in timecode, why on earth is it important how it looks? The whole idea is to give people feedback on what to write down, and/or make sure the video is not repurposed without your consent.

If you can identify a unique frame of what you know the correct tc, it’s easy. Use Modify timecode from the menu.

Where is the framerate defined in a BWF file?
Nothing about that in the specs as fas as i know.
Thus, it should be possible to assign any TC rate to the clips…

What has framerate to do with it?
100 Mbits / sec is 100 / 8 = 12.5 MegaByte per second.
12.5 MB * 60 seconds = 750 MB per minute.
750 MB per minute makes 750 * 60 minutes = 45000 MB per hour.
45000 / 1024 = 44 GB/hour (excluding sound, as the datarate is normally specified for video only.)
Add about 400 Mbyte per channel per hour…

actually, i’ve already made a front end (intended for MXF renaming / archiving for a broadcaster over here), but i can’t get FFplay to work with my Avid files…
Can you send me a compiled version of FFplay that does work?

And, it’s not really a VLC trick, but an FFplay trick…

I’m not up to date with Encore latest version, but a few things to concider:

Subtitles (those on DVD that can be turned on/off) are 4 colored bitmaps.

That means, 1 color transparant, 1 color outline, 1 color text
Leaving you with ONE color for anti alias !!!

Now that is not much, but you DEFINITLY want to make use of it.

If you don’t make the subpictures yourself, you need to set up Encore to do it right. (Meaning, put the anti-alias between the text and outline, as that is where there is the most contrast. Some apps (eg DVD SP) put the anti alias between outline and video. Not so good looking IMHO.

So, check your settings. And if you want to make your own subpictures (with way more control over the looks), have a look at Subbits and its Render Engine. (Download the demo from my site)

Well, not sure if it is an ‘accurate’ test, but clocks tend to change when the temperature changes, so it will tell you ‘something’, and it will be fun.
(It’s not that this will happen in the real world, but cams might get hot when they are recording, so on short individual shots the difference might be otherwise.)

What do you use to sync up the material?
