What makes you think the XH A1 has a stable clock?
I think you just got a lucky combo. Try moving one of the parts to a way colder or hotter place, see what happens then….

    ah, that might explain something.
But it isn’t hard to add one (in batch) using FCP, or QtChange, so my guess is this is still a viable option.

    I don’t see the problem.
FCP relinks based on filename first, then on timecode / reel IF THERE IS OVERLAP.

So if you did not assign timecode to the clips, this can be done painless if the filenames match.

If there is timecode, it should work if the timecode comes across (and i think even without a reelname, but have not tested recently)

So why would Media Manage not work for this?

Otherwise, it’s not hard for me to make something that will copy the existing timecode to new files. (And that will be lightning fast compared to the transcoding time.

    So what am i missing?

I run Ppmulator as VST plugin in Avid (win32)
Works, but buggy. But i only need it for LUFS on commercials, so it’s not a big deal for me.

Autosequence, apply the flip, and subclip from there?

  • Well,
I’ve added an option to QTchange to refresh the TC track.
(it takes the found start time and reelname, and writes a fresh tc track based on that, with the choosen FPS, so make sure that matches!)

Let me know if this fixes things.

Well, TC is very well doable if you can get audio in.
If you got a channel to spare, use LTC.

But that is my problem with these things, you need an audio embedder as it has no normal sound inputs.

    How do you handle that?

    Jeremy,
When i started out with Premiere (1995), i used that exact function…
Simple OCR that had to be trained to recognize the font.

Can’t be hard to write nowadays, but i can’t think of a workflow where i would need it nowadays, since we got LTC, VITC and timecode in metadata (inside the clips as well as in databases…)

Back then machine control was difficult, and one would ingest from VHS viewing copies since pro decks were expensive. All that has changed…

  • have a look at QTchange, see if that reads the correct TC.
If that is the case, i could make an option to ‘refresh’ the TC.
(deleting the old track and insert a new, compatible one…)

Do concact me direct if this is indeed the case.
(if it is not, i can perhaps work around it, but that will take more time and i will concider it a custom job…)
