Problem 1.
This is a known bug. I suspect you’ve ingested entire tapes with TC breaks, AVID does not see 1 frame TC breaks. So yes, now you’re onlining you’re facing the trouble…
(it’s not that bad, put the offline on top and make a wipe with the fresh video, and manually align the fresh shots. Takes an hour or so if you have a couple of hundred shots. (assuming you’re only redigging video)Problem 2
I’ve only seen this when capturing sequences (my pre-decompose time)
If you use 422, i’ve never seen it. Check cabling (hardware) for bugs.
Otherwise, get a trainee cause you’re in for a lot of work…hth

You have to enable it in one of the settings…

You can convert a FCP log list to avid quite fast, if you know the Avid specific stuff. Open an AVID ALE file and it’s quite clear.
Alternative, if you want to log fast and be able to have some decent comment fields, use my logger:

You can use the free demo to generate an Avid ALE to analyze, but i think you’ll get addicted to the speed of it 🙂

Qt player clip speed info is notorious, well, strange…
I would not think about it too much.
If you want to be sure, capture some footage with BITC (put it in the top or you will have strange readings) and see what it really does.Last but not least, if it looks good, it is good.

You cannot expect 2:1 work…
(sadly…) I had a clip that refused to digitize nor render correctly to 2:1. Codec trouble i guess…
Stick to 1:1, also for SP.
Next, amount of streams has more to do with drive speed and approved graphic card. You can expect more than you describe.
What i don’t get, if you have a system, why not test yourself?Bouke

i forgot…
If you’re in NTSC, ingesting SD as DV is a bad idea. the 4:1:1 DV to 4:2:0 MpegII will make things horrible.
Now i don’t know how HDV is set up, but if you ingest a master in SD you will want a 4:2:2 or a 4:2:0 codec….Bouke

There is definitly a shorter/better way.
first, encoding at 8 mb is too high, end users will experience problems (also, use 192 ac3 too to lower the datarate). Stick to 6, perhaps 7,
Next, two pass is overkill, so is VBR. It will fit easilly in CBR. No need to lower the datarate on certain places, and you don’t want it to go up for the compatibility.
So, one pass CBR is the better choice, and it will siginficantly increase speed as well.Another option, lay off to HDV tape first, ingest the SD downconvert and encode that (with above parameters). If you start with a SD DV file you should render two times faster than RT.
(no real time saver, as you dump to HDV, 30 mins. ingest 30 mins and render 15 mins, plus all labour, you still have an hour and a half…)As for quality, it’s quite simple. If it looks good to you, it is good for you.

well, not all cameras accept DV in… Perhaps there lies the problem.
Over here they are all ‘helped’, as enabling the port will make them a ‘deck’, thus more taxes on import (widgets to give them their balls back are very populair over here)Bouke

[Tcurren] “That said, you will probably never see a difference on a component monitor between the two.
PS: I can tell as the beta SP will actually be sharper”
Come on Terrence, ever watched a colored title rendered in DV?
Ever turned on ‘blue only’ on DV?
Ever saw heavilly color corrected DV material(and i know you have to say yes to all…)
Good beta (and that aint UVW) can look gorgeous, bad beta can look horrible, but there is definitly a difference. IMHO, if you work with DV, ingest uncompressed, work uncompressed and only write back to DV if you have too. (but i have the luxury of digibeta, and i can imagine people prefer dvCam over UVW…)
