Now for a trusty old Ferengi rule:

    Time for a shameless plug.

    Thad,
If you can explain me how the TC’s should offset (i don’t know about varicam that much, but i do about ALE and math), i could alter my ALE cleaner application to do it for you.

Drop me a private message if you like, bouke@videotoolshed.com

    Dan,
Depending on the source, i might have a few options for you.
Most important, what kind of deck do you have?
If you have a TC out on your deck it’s easy…

You cannot do something wrong if you do it right 🙂
If you encode as 16:9 and have your project 16:9 and selected letterbox, it should work.

Now a question for you, do other titles play correct in the same setup as your disk fails? If so, there is something fishy with the setups. (Most likely the DVD player is set up that a 16:9 monitor is attached and there is no SCART cable or it’s broke)

If your titles fail while others are good, check your workflow.

    Basicly what happens with flagging:
You have to set up your DVD player so it knows if there is a 16:9 monitor is attached. If you do so and the content is flagged wide, there will be a + 5volt signal on one of the scart pins, putting the tv in wide. Mind you, a lot of CRT 4:3 sets are in fact also 16:9 sets, as they can scale. So if you have one of those, also set the player so it knows a 16:9 set is attached.
Now if you set the player to 4:3, the player will letterbox the content. Horrible if you have a 16:9 set, as people will press the scale button…

Try TMPG enc if you want dirt cheap, or Cinemacraft if you can spend a little more. Both are windows only, but i suspect they run under Parallels. Definitly with bootcamp.

    what version are you on?
first 4 versions have a bug. If you’re not on latest 4 version you should upgrade (free) before trying anything else.

well, the guy was me 🙂
Best way to check out if it works for you is just run the demo.
It’s fully functional except you’re only allowed 8 clips on export.
you’re always welcome to contact me direct if you have specific questions.
As for the conversion, it’s really not difficult once you’ve seen both file formats. They are just plain text (ignore the extension or rename to .txt). Any word processor can edit them, you just have to convert between tab delim text and tables.
