Currently i’m doing 9 streams without problems (well, transcoded down to DV as my storage isn’t that fast)
From theory, (have not tried it) you can have multple banks, as Avid only displays 9 at the same time.
That of course makes it a challenge how to group the cams so you can have everything you need at your fingertips.

The trick you are using is not strange at all.
(At least you have something if things go bad…)

What i don’t get is how you get so close.
The timestamp on the files is not the file creation time, but the end of the recording.
Thus, if you STOP record on both devices at the same time, you’re good.
Otherwise you have to subtract the duration of the clip from the found time value.

If the audio is BWF, you could try my BWF_QT merge application.
This will marry the two (with an optional offset if you need it.)

Why is FCPauxTC refusing to take the LTC from some clips?
Did you try the latest version? (It’s in version 4.x now, if you have a version 3 serial, contact me direct and i’ll send you a new number)

If some clips have no LTC recorded for whatever reason,
the latest version can guess them based on existing (free run) timecode.
Now since you transcoded, that might be lost but could be salvaged by QTchange.

The zoom writes BWF files, but last time i’ve checked, they have a timestamp of zero, thus meaningless.
BWF and FCP are not the best friends to say at least.
So, strip the BWF info by exporting to a new Wave file (qt pro can do this, as well as a zillion other application.)
I would not trust FCP to do this job, for the reason mentioned above.

That should take care of things…

I don’t think it’s the Canon’s fault, nor do i think it’s a TC problem.

Reason:
I’m just working on AMA import / transcode of subclipped GoPro material to DV.
Stepped back to Plan B as i could not relink for uprez.
Reason i could not relink was probably that the decomposed subclips (with a gazillion handles to get them to original lenght) were one frame longer than the AMA ones…

So i transcoded the GoPro to DNxHD, after making QT copies of the Mp4 (no transcode, just rewrap), and on some clips have their audio off by one frame…

So, next time i’ll probably transcode the whole shebang and forget about AMA.

right click the sequence and choose ‘ settings ‘
If you are unsure, make an empty sequence, drop in one clip.
FCP will ask you if you want the sequence to be set to the clip settings. Answer yes, and note the settings made for you.

well, you could use QTchange to save the TC attributes, and apply them later after the transcode.

I don’t get this.
Avid supports only 1 QT TC track, and i don’t even know if the MK III does in fact write TC.
Don’t you mean to say that sometimes your audio is out of sync?
(that is a known problem for the MKII)
