What video card/memory amount do you have on your AE system? The only explanation I can offer is that the system is running out of OGL resources. Unfortunately, this is a fact of life with OGL rendering. You need a beefy card.
You are right in your observation that in BCC5 OGL filters were limited to 8 bit. That was one of the BCC6 improvements.
RED 4, FX 9 and GR 5 should show up as 16 bit in AE. Earlier versions may be 8 bit only.

Why don’t you give it a try yourself. It only takes a few seconds to apply BCC Optical Stabilizer filter. Whether you need to lock the shot or smooth camera pan, BCC filter will do best quality job. Options for zoom and rotation are included. Let us know what you think…

Unfortunately no Pixel Chooser bezier masking is available in Final Cut. Part of the reason is that there is no custom on-screen controls overlay available within current Final Cut version. We hope it will improve in the future.

Which Boris plugin are you using? Is this Title 3D or Graffiti or RED? If the last two, which version? I’d like to reproduce your problem. Also, FCP version, project size would help. What you are describing should not be happening.

BCC Chroamakey Unit includes BCC Chromakey and BCC Chromakey Studio. Which one of the two filters are you using?

It sounds like you need to fine-tune the target area rectangles. The filter can only remove an object if there is enough image info in adjacent frames of video. Make sure to use preview mode with blue and red rectangles which tell you if the object can be completely removed. Make sure to read the pdf under the Help button. Watch this recent movie:

it’s done in Avid but the main idea is the same.
In practice, successful removal can be done in clips where the object is moving with steady speed and direction and where the object itself is rather small (does not cover the entire screen). A person crossing the street or a car passing the intersection are the perfect examples.

how did I find this page? I typed “compatible filters” in the built in google search field at the top of the BorisFX website page. It’s very handy. Even I have to rely on the search function to find info on our web site. It’s grown so big in the past few years.
